That is terribly sad, Joe. Last spring, I noticed a dead dog laying on the side of the road not far from my house. I did not recognize the dog but stopped to see if it was wearing any tags so I could notify the owner. It was a female pit mix and she was wearing two heavy collars, a nylon one and a choke chain, but no ID. She didn't have a mark on her so I'm not convinced she died from being hit by a car.
I left her sadly, hoping her owner would be looking for her and find her body. The poor girl laid there for almost three days, I finally couldn't stand it anymore, and my husband and I went and got her with our truck, took her home and buried her on our property.

Like Kelly did with Heidi, I cried a lot of tears for that dog who probably never knew a kindness in her life, and I sent her to the Bridge and told her to look for my dogs when she got there, and that she would forever be a part of my family.

The cruelty and indifference of some people toward their dogs is sometimes more than I can bear.... |

"Call me crazy but I couldn't stomach the thought of the poor dog spending another night out there so I went and got him and brought him to the neighbor. "

 I'm glad you did that.

 So sad .....
Me too Joe, thanks for being such a stand up guy, and doing what you did.
Also that you volunteered to help him get his fence fixed.
I am sad this neighbor has more dogs.
I can only hope your kindness has some kind of impact on him.
Let's hope he can do better for the ones that he still has.

Oh Joe, I'm so sorry. I can't begin to imagine your disappointment when you saw the pup lying there, and hours later, knowing the owner knew.
You really took the high road on this one. I hope it comes back to you threefold.

Rest peacefully little one.

I just can't fathom it, why someone would give that kind of attitude, and then do nothing. It's just beyond me.
Joe, like everyone else has said. You did the right thing.

I hope if something ever happens to a dog I own that it's someone like one of you who find/help them out. What nice, although sad, stories and what great people. Though this was a sad topic, it's in a way brightened my day.

More than once I've pulled over and dragged some poor dog's body out of the middle of the road and checked for tags.
The incident that really made me shake my head was when our next-door-neighbor's (at the old neighborhood) little chihuahua, who always ran loose, predictably got caught by the corner folks running loose pit bulls. We pulled up to see their big male running down the street with the little chi in his mouth. I jumped out and yelled at him and ran towards him so that he dropped the little dog, but it was too late. Poor thing was in his agonals already. The neighbors came out, including four little kids all under 10 or so, and NOT ONE of them acted like they even gave a shit! The oldest girl went into the house to get a paper bag to put his body in and that was that. I guess they threw him in the dumpster. A whole new generation being raised to be totally unfeeling towards animals..... Just great.

Reminds me of the time a few years ago when coming back after a pretty tiring business trip I noticed the cars in front were swerving all over the road.It was dark at the time but I could make out a little bundle in the road which was a small dog which had just been hit.
I managed to pick him up ,luckily I had an estate car ,found a vet,got him patched up and took him to the local police station.no i.d.tag but the copper said he would look after him.
Thinking that I was about to acquire another dog when I checked with the police I was told the little chap had been claimed.
No thanks from the owner,no offer to help with the vets bill.
but big kiss from my wife
