Thank you so much everyone. It's been a tough few weeks. Pam was admitted to the hospital for another 6 days due to an infection inside the original operation site. She went back to the surgeon for 3 days saying that something was wrong, but they wouldn't listen until her incision site broke open and started oozing pus and blood. They admitted her right away then and got the infectious disease people on her case. They had her in surgery the next day to clean out a pocket of infection the size of a baseball.
She just got back home 2 days ago with a PIC line installed. A nurse is stopping by once a day to administer Vancomycin, which is a particularly nasty antibiotic. More than anything, Pam is upset at this setback. She was recovering well and was 2 days from going back to work. Now she is in much more pain, and on restricted activities for at least another 2 weeks. I was supposed to be home weeks ago to help with her aftercare, but I got stuck here, wading through Army paperwork and reduced staff that the civilian run departments have implemented due to budget cuts. The normal 2 week process is now reaching 5.
Again, thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will be fine. It's just something we need to get through.

Oh, boy. What a depressing setback. I hope she can keep her spirits up. I know everyone here is wishing her a fast recovery.
What a bloody chore David, Pam must be so cheesed off, the recovery period after major surgery is all to often prolonged because infections set in, it shouldn't be the case in 2012, but it still happens and it is so damn frustrating.
Please pass on our best wishes for a speedy recovery, and hoping the pain she is in can be managed to a comfortable level.
How very frustrating for both of you. I know the two of you really want and need to be together right now, and it is not fair that the two of you are having to be separated during such a frightening time.
I wish you both all the best, her for a full and fast recovery and you to hurry up and get back home with her.
I have been selfishly enjoying your awesome stories about Fama and missing the much more important part that a family is still unwillingly split apart.
All the best to you both, my thoughts and prayers as well.
We are keeping you both in our thoughts. It's a lot to go through. Prayers that you get home quickly, and that Pam gets on the upswing and recovers fully. Julie
Aww David, I'm so sorry to hear about the infection. The poor girl.
Yes, please let her know we're all here rooting for her.
I hear laughter aids in recovery. Have you got some funny stories you could share about her. I'm sure we could add some peanut gallery observations, might take her mind off the pain for a bit. Maybe like a big "Get Well" card.
