Also look into LASER THERAPY it's for Painful conditions in dogs.
Speeds up healing. ($25.00 per treatment in Pa.)
Good supplement's are Synovi G3 and Duralactin Canine used together. These two products work very well with hip and stifle problems.
Help I didn't give you to much to think about,
the vet I work for used to work for Purnia and always for advanced training conferences. We are dog and cat geeks.
This is weird my dog injured himself recently, partly why I didn't post much. He spins in the same direction, turning the same direction....and always hurt his right rear. This time was really bad, he wasn't allowed to run or jump or play. He wasn't allowed to have much downtime either. I had to keep him moving/controlled. I had my work cut out for me.
He had to have frequent walks and after the first few days trotting him was the Rx. He was in so much pain at first that he didn't want to run anyway. Its been about a week and a half and he was rechecked doing a lot better. Poor baby.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
Thanks Pat, not too much information at all. I try to soak it all in. My Vet has not said anything about blood work with the Rimadyl, maybe I should ask him. The sedative seems to be taking the "edge" off some but I am not a big fan of having a doped up dog. We are giving the minimum dose. I have also cut back on her food since she is not participating in any activities, it is so hot here in the summer so I guess if there is a good time for this type of injury now is not so bad. I will be doing the down stays while leashed this weekend during our outdoor activities.
Tresa, yeah that is weird that someone else is going thru the same situation. I am glad to here your baby is doing well. Today is 1 week since the injury but Sat. was the first day of her 2 weeks down time. She can put weight on it at times and wants to run, jump chase things and generally act a fool. Keeping her down for another week and a half is going to be tough. My Vet said no walks only out to the yard for potty breaks on the leash. We have been keeping her confined while in the house either crate or gate off the room we are in. Thanks to all for the information.
