Maisha, I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss of Enoch. It is a terrible thing to lose one of our beloved dogs. I hope you will be able to take some comfort in knowing that, in the short life he had, he was loved and very well cared for by you and your family.
It's got to be even more difficult not knowing exactly what happened. I hope you get some answers from the necropsy.

We just got his necropsy report. There was a lot of blood around his lungs and a small tumor was discovered near his sternum. The doctor suspects that the tumor would bleed making Enoch become weak and then the bleeding would stop. This time the blood vessel didn't stop bleeding. He said it is a very difficult tumor to discover. He also said that GSDs can get cancer around this age. Has anyone experience this in GSDs?
My heart is with you today. I understand your pain.
We, too, lost an amazing male GSD unexpectedly as well, in 2008. He too had been lethargic the evening prior, but appeared okay at bedtime. Our son found him dead in the middle of the night. It was devasting to all of us to say the least.
We had caught bloat 18 months prior and he was post surgery and gastropexy. His belly was not swollen the night prior to his death, but I still think it was torsion that took him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you from Utah.
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
I lost my 12 1/2 yr old sable GSD in 2010 to Hemangiosarcoma. In 6 wks it went from 6mm's to the size of a softball with it spreading to both lobes of his liver in multiple areas. I was going to do surgery but the cancer advanced too fast, he had several bleeds that helped seed the tumor (I also had a necropsy done). I talked to vets and did research learned that labs, goldens, GSD's are at particular risk of developing hemangiosarcoma of the spleen, skin and heart; particularly as they age.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
Jodi, I am so very sorry for your loss. After losing my police service dog, it took me 15 years to get another GS with working dog potential. I pray for you and yours for your loss.
I am so sorry to hear about your dog too. It is so hard no matter the situation. I hope you find out what went wrong. Our dog cody almost died and they could never figure out what happened to him. So, I know how good it will be to get some answers.
You did the best you could. It was not your fault. Please let me know what they find.

Wow that is interesting. At least you know that it was unusual and about all you could do was to research this type of thing. So sorry for your broken heart. I know how terrible it is to have a dog get sick and die. Sharon
