I was gonna wait till they were 2 but it seems I need to get the sulky this year or I will never get it. I am also doing weight pulling with my dogs but I also have to wait for that and trust me its a lot cheaper for everything needed for that lol!
Dillon, You don't show a location but if you live anywhere near where there are amish people, I know there are amish make carts for dogs. My brother had one that he used to hook his two rotties up to and let them pull his kids around.
I live in lancaster county pa so I am close to many amish all around here but I did not know they made carts for dogs. I do not really want a cart but a sulky! Do you know anyone why make the carts around here?
Just called my brother because I was almost positive that he got in Lancaster. He said if you go into Intercourse it's one of the amish stores right in town. It's been several years so he can't remember the name of the store but they have tons of different size carts and can set you up for alot cheaper than $5,000. He said that at the time they had a really big rottie that they demonstrated how to hook it up but it's been long enough that dog may not be around any more.
He does still have the cart but he's rebuilt it and modified it to use with miniature horses because the dogs have both passed away. I'll see if I can get him to txt me some pics tomorrow and see if I can figure out how to post them.
My friend and I rescued 3 Pyr’s from a bad situation in the late 90’s. She took two, I took 1 until we could find a qualified home to take them, scarce in my area. I only had a few goats, chickens, and ducks, so to keep the dogs from going cuckoo, we joined a carting club. They were strict about no weight before 18 months,2 was better, and not before hip/elbow check. Most dogs in the club were young, the time utilized by getting them accustomed to the harness, cart, carting commands, forward/back, different surfaces. As Bob said, train the behavior.
I am sure you will enjoy it with your Corso’s..Keep us posted!
After talking to a few people that know about as much about carting as there is to know I have come to the decision of not doing carting and going with a dog powered recumbent bike insted. The main reason is I was told the hills around where I live are to steep. With the bike I can help the dogs on the hills. With the bike there is never a chance of weight being put on the dogs ever. I also think I will have better control with the bike while the dogs are learning. Let me know what everyone thinks. I plan on doing training like I'm getting ready for the ad with this bike
