It seemed to me that all the dancing around during food prep was starting to make my dogs think that this behavior was speeding up the food delivery.
So I make them sit and stay, the food delivered into their crates is the ultimate "treat".
They are released to eat after the food is placed where I want them to eat it. For me that's inside the crate behind a locked door, this way I know there's no fight.
I do the same thing. One of my dogs Terra is always hungry and does not have manner when eating. She has learned not to touch others food, but when I am preparing her food she runs around the kitchen and is under my feet and barking. So, I have all of them sit on the edge of the carpet our dining room (attached to kitchen) and wait until I release them. I also make them wait sometimes when I place the food dish down.
Now all I have to say to them is "where are you supposed to be" and they get in position.
