Do you know how to reset your browser?
I ask because these show fine for me unless I need to reset the browser (emptying cache, clearing history, etc.).

Any chance of a little video clip of any marker session?

Carol;
You need to limit his options so that he's not deciding to be "off". Also, you need to build his drive for the tug (which might mean withholding the ball). You can build drive by using the techniques in Advanced Concepts in Motivation.
As covered in the ME videos, most people teach beginning behaviors with food, then reward with tug for advancing the training. However, you will have to buid more motivation for the tug if you want to use it as a reward.

After reading the article that Ana posted I can only say yes....but
Obviously food is a survival necessity as opposed to toys but both my dogs will leave their food in a heartbeat if I pulled out a tug. Food would "possibly" carry a higher value if the dogs were very hungry but being fed twice a day wouldn't seem to carry the theme of the article. Using food as a training reward get a nice performance from my dogs but using their tug gets a very high energy level performance. How does this happen if food has such high value.
The food over toy may apply for the average house dog that doesn't have the high drive for a toy or tug.

I have no way of video taping myself( not that I'd want to :blush .)
I did not mean to infer that I cannot get some OB using tugs or balls. He will sit, down and a few other commands, to play. But, he gets bored very quickly. If we are playing 2 balls, he does it great for 3 or 4 throws. If it's tug maybe a little longer. And right now without a long line if he gets the tug, chances are slim he'll bring it back. This is in our large fenced yard.
Also you are right. I reset the browser. MUCH BETTER!!
To Duane: I guess I shouldn't be leaving different balls and toys lying around the yard when we are playing. Only the ones currently being used? Guess that's a no brainer!!

Yes, true. Ed states frequently that all toys belong to him and that the dog is allowed to play with him and his toys.

the dog doesn't own any toys . . . you own the toys and you play with them and the dog when , where and how you decide .
if you know the dog will become disinterested after 4 reps , then try stopping after 2 reps , do another activity quickly , then try another 2 reps . end the session with the dog wanting more .

Not only are the toys yours, and YOU play with him with the toy(s), but what kind of excitement is generated by stuff that's part of the landscape 24/7? Yes, YOU are an important added component, but why not add the excitement of "new" toy in your hand, too? Make yourself the best show in town.
"But, he gets bored very quickly. If we are playing 2 balls, he does it great for 3 or 4 throws. If it's tug maybe a little longer. "
Carol, can I back up a little? YES to the tiny short sessions that never extend to the point of boredom. But also, do you play with the dog, with the toys? As mentioned, the toys are YOURS, but when a toy comes out to play, do you too?
Do you look silly playing with him? I figure, if I don't look silly, I'm doing it wrong.
Do his eyes light up with the tug comes out?
By the same token, does the bait bag mean "yay! fun!" to the dog?

Speaking of backing up, picture yourself backing away from the excited dog, with or without a toy, and the dog chasing you to be with you.
Playing, for me, is the real foundation of this. Training is mixed in there, yes, of course, but the dog is chasing me because I'm the source of the best fun and the best "stuff."
