In therapy dog work, I've discovered that hospitals have far too many unreasonable regulations to make it worth taking the dog in...
Other work you can do would be reading with kids programs at libraries (much busier in the summer months)and schools, also nursing homes and assisted living homes (generally not as strict as hospitals). Drift and Caterina are part of a group of dogs that go to the local college campus during finals week to help students "de-stress."
Drift and Caterina are also regular visitors to the local fire stations and the police department. We are working on having Drift being an "on call" therapy dog for children (and adults) involved in accidents, fires, or domestic abuse situations as well...

Kelly, those are really great places to go also. When I was going to physical therapy for my shoulder a few years ago, they had me bring him with me. He went around and 'visited' each patient as they are doing their therapy - he wasn't even on a leash or trained in what to do, he just seemed to sense what people needed. When they are being worked on and it hurt a lot, he would go sit by the head of their bed and they would pet him during the work being done. So I knew he was a natural! But to see him with these kids was an even more fulfilling experience! We are lucky to be able to witness these dogs helping other people!
