I've always put my bait into a plastic sandwich baggie before putting it into the bait bag (or my pocket). Just don't want the mess that some of the moister stuff leaves behind. I don't use the kind with a zipper -- too much to fuss with -- but I never thought of cutting off those fold-over flaps for easier access! I just might try that.
I also re-use them. They get washed in hot water and dish detergent as needed, and when it's time, they get transferred to the poop bag department.

Please repost if you figure out an alternative. Tanner doesn't seem to hav any problems with it but i try to keep him minimal grain. He hasn't had a single ear infection since i moved him to grain free kibble and started tea tree rinses when his ears start to get nasty.

I will, Cathy. I'm thinking right out of the gate that just switching to ANY no-gluten flour would be a good step for a dog with a grain-problem history. I'd like to eliminate all three wheat ingredients.
I'm thinking that a little peanut butter (the kind that has one ingredient) might make a good glue to make up for the kind of dry cakiness that comes from many of the flours (ground grains) that are used to substitute for wheat.

Thanks for the recipes!! I tried the ziplok cut off yesterday. It works great and everything is neat.
Next batch of chicken breasts, I will bake on nonstick as you explained.
Incidentally, that sitting problem with the recall.. getting him to sit close and straight when he comes in, solved with steak. If it is not close enough, I tell him "closer"and voila!!
I also use the tug end of the flirt pole the same way. Bribery= progress!!

Oh, looky! Someone else has done the work!
http://www.stockpilingmoms.com/2013/04/gluten-free-pumpkin-dog-treats/
I'd probably go all out and make it quinoa flour, which has all the essential amino acids and is not high on the glycemic index like wheat flour, rice flour, tapioca, etc. (There are other flours low on the G.I., too, but most are either hard to find or better for humans than dogs ; coconut flour would fall into the first category and bean/legume flours the second.)
I've seen quinoa flour in the bulk section where I shop, but also in cellophane bags from Bob's Red Mill.
I'd probably try a small batch first .... although, for a dog reward, how unsuccessful could it be? I'm thinking that the worst case would be something that didn't hold together well and had to be used up in the supper bowl over time.
I'd probably use the ground cinnamon rather then the essential oil.

I would try a small amount of the quinoa flour with your dog before purchasing a large bag if you can. My body refuses to process quinoa no matter what form it's in and it wouldn't surprise me if some dogs are the same.

This is interesting. I had read of this about uncooked soaked quinoa, and undercooked quinoa, but not cooked or ground (flour).
Then yeah, a small trial amount would definitely be best!
ETA
I sometimes buy a THK with quinoa and have seen no problems, but of course this is not only finely processed, but also dehydrated (at low temps).

Too much pumpkin can have a laxative effect. That I DO NOT NEED! So I'll have to go slow.
Today, he fell and hurt his left front leg playing ball. He let out a real shriek.
He's limping slightly. The vet says she thinks he'll be OK. but if not, MORE X-rays!! @#$%^&* if it's not one thing it's another!
Big puppy...such a painful childhood!

My favorite bait is candy corn. I break them into 2 pieces. They last forever if you don't get them wet.
My dog thinks sugar is as good as meat. I rationalize that he's burning off the sugar while we are training.
