All it took for me to get chicken backs was one phone call to the local meat/butcher shop. They don't carry them, but their supplier has necks and backs, so they just toss one in for me when I give them a call. They are perfect for one of his daily meals and only cost $0.49/lb!

Check out restaurant suppliers. I get all my dog's RMBs etc there. I go to one about an hour away..but only go every 3 months. I get 40 lb cases of chicken necks, backs & Qtrs, gizzards, duck necks, 10lb rolls of turkey & beef etc etc. I usually get 200 lb or more at a time.
Obviously, you have to have a large freezer to buy in quantity. I pay .30 lb for necks & backs & .45 lb for Qtrs, .60 lb for duck necks, gr turkey is now up to.95 lb. etc etc. Way far better then any supermarket. Although, I think my friend said Costco has whole chickens for .89 lb if you buy by the case. That's not too bad.
Even if you have to travel over an hour...if you only go every couple of months or so...it's no big deal. The prices make it worth the trip.
