Without going too far offtopic, I hope I can get that same sort of behavior for ear cleaning, Cheri. I can put my hands and fingers in Duke's ears all day long when I'm scratching his head.. but should a cotton ball appear? Completely unacceptable. Horrible, evil sneaky cotton ball!
I do understand about some meds (for people, too) needing to be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. I think a pill given just seconds before a dog eats a meal counts as being taken "with food." I guess I've just always been lucky. I've never had a dog that was finicky about eating. I know there are plenty of dogs that are, though, and of course being sick could put even a normally good eater off his appetite.
It sounds like the cooked meatballs are working for you, though, so maybe that's the best solution for Ramsey.
The he wouldn't touch the pill pockets, but your idea of quick HV treat after, made it better. Not great, but better.
Then I fed him his food with lightly cooked ground round+ Panacur. He ate all.
I think I can train him to not be so freaked out about being pilled with that strategy. And it will be easier in the future.
He was pleasantly distracted by the pieces of steak. I've got a hunch it will get better.
He still disappeared after all was done, so I know he's still moody.
All this time, because of his intermittent poop problems, I have been very careful what I fed him. Now that I know it was not the food etc., maybe I can be a little more adventurous in finding what he really digs.

I haven't read the thread, so this may well have been posted already ....
I find it very useful to have a HV treat ready so the dog swallows the pill-treat fast in order to make room for the HV treat. I have it ready and visible, and aromatic.
This means I have the pill treat in one hand and the "dessert" treat ready in the other hand.
This whole thread makes me happy that I've always been 'no nonsense' with my dogs. I use a pill gun and if the dog wants to pout, oh well. Not my problem.
If he refuses to eat his dinner, how will I give him the powdered Panacur and be sure he has food in his stomach to combat the nausea from the antibiotic?

A few of us put that idea out there...lol
Just reviewing who had replied would have told me that.
