Don't take it personally RR, the people posting here are only interested in the dog's well being. Plenty of people have happily ruined their dogs doing the things that you've stated you're not doing (training wall scaling before joints are mature, etc).
Would love to see pics and/or video as well. Sounds like your dog's in good hands with your training experience

If you had said "scaled a 6' fence" in the beginning, you wouldn't have been questioned. Your own words, so don't be mad at everybody else. You sure sounded like a proud Papa, so I, for one, DID think you were encouraging him.
FWIW, I knew your 5mo. dog didn't clear any 6' fence. I was hoping you would reconsider your rash claim.

" Plenty of people have happily ruined their dogs doing the things that you've stated you're not doing (training wall scaling before joints are mature, etc). "
Huge ditto. I wish I could count the number.
I'm glad you're here! Kristin is right that the well-being of the dog comes first here.
Ditto to Duane, too. "If you had said "scaled a 6' fence" in the beginning, you wouldn't have been questioned."
So ..... let's start over, knowing that we all care first and foremost about the dog.

Excellent idea Connie!
Roger, as mentioned above the reason we're here is to help with people and their training issues.
I will apologize for coming off a bit strong but we've had people in the past that came here with brags about their dog's abilities and those of us that have trained for a few yrs know ti wasn't really possible for a LOT of the claims made.
We like dogs but it can take a bit of time to warm up to people sometime.
Hope you stick around and listed to folks with good intentions and not so much on manners.
Love to see some training videos also but no need to see the pup do any jumping. It's way to early for that now other then maybe a foot high jump to teach the basics of the behavior.
old dogs LOVE to learn new tricks |

Ain't that the truth!
We kind of stink at the people skills some days.
Sounds like you are real happy with the pup, I love seeing that!

Sounds like a nice pup, Roger. I stumbled on this site nearly five years ago when I acquired my own puppy prodigy. He continued to mature into a very nice dog, although, not a great jumper and lacks spatial awareness Enjoy Ivan.

You regulars know that I'm somewhat new to working dogs, but I may be able to offer a little insight into the defense drive on this pup. My pup is now 7 months old. He's primarily Czech lines. I know the mom and dad as they are both owned by one of our club members and have been around them and watched the mom work for a couple years now. The dad had to be retired due to a back injury just after qualifying for nationals a couple years. So, anyway, my understanding before the litter even came about was that the czech lines tend to be very high in defense and tend to mature a little later then the German lines do. My pup is showing exactly that. He naturally does not trust strange people and goes into self defense very easily. So much so that he is very hesitant to tug with anyone but me. Our trainer said that most trainers would tell me to find another dog (for sport)at this point but knowing what we know about his lines, he expects him to come out of his shell eventually and be a beast like his dad was before he got hurt. His dad appartently didn't show hardly any prey drive until after 12 months of age and was very high in defense just like Armor is showing now. Then one day the switch flipped and he was awesome after that. I guess it's just an assumption but hopefully that's what the OP was trying to explain.
FWIW it's worth, my dog goes back to some of the same lines that Will's dog Fetz goes back to. Grim for one.

First off thank you Kory Fox..for the rest, perhaps I did come on a bit strong about Ivan. I am trying to load pics and videos but having tech issues. Czech and DDR are different as anyone who has had them will likely agree. Pedigree isn't. I want to thank everyone with the concern for pushing Ivan to hard. You can trace his pedigree under archie vedusk, on pedigreedatabase. Here is a sample of his linage. Grim z pohranicni zm, zv3, ipo3, schh3, zps1, fh1, velmi dobry ...lary bret bett, fh2, zv3, schh3, ipo3, vz1, zps1, zvv1, schha, sg cz 8um cr...and one more ill list cak pisecna boure, vms, fc1,2um cr, mistr cr, ipo3, schh3, velmi dobry, 5cvq1/p gero chmelovy...this is a sample. Most of his pedigree is this good. So forgiving my initial reply and such, perhaps some will see his potential beyound the average. By the way, someone broke in my shop outside a hour ago, guess how I found out? Ivan had him cornered and he screamed for help. Saying get the dog off im sorry. Ivan did not bite, but held him. What drive would most call that? I say natural born defensive drive. Btw he turns 5 months april 16th.. on facebook under roger robinson you can see pics and video until I get them loaded here

There are over 25 roger Robinson's on face book. Do you mind sharing your location or anything else that would make finding you easier.
