We're in the middle of the hottest couple of days all year so I'm going to see what I can do in the garage instead of outside. My big girl really doesn't handle the heat well at all.
We got our A/C back this morning. The repairman spent some time loving on Tanner and talking to the cockatiel while we waited for the temp to start dropping. I was very proud of my boy. No jumping even with the leash off.
Wish I had waited until I got a tripod to do the first training session. I've taught Tanner how to hit an easy button and he generalized that to a hockey puck very quickly. Literally the first time I put it on the ground he stuck his paw on it and looked up for his treat. Smart boy. I've got to re-arrange some stuff in the hallway before we can go any further and get a tripod.
My dog will bring me metal items, however the same issue you are having with pinker my dog has with plastic.
I have come across a potentially serious setback for training Hydro to do a backflip. While practicing last night in the sand he landed on his side on a piece of wood. My fault completely however he now really hesitates and does not be seem to be enjoying himself as much.

I don't know if this will be universal, but for me, I'd probably choose another goal for now. I wouldn't want to rush him through recovering from his suspicion, just because this is meant to be fun for both of you.
Alright, well this evening we will go back to the same spot and do some easy tricks. With lots of treats of course.
Now that Betty has reminded me of my own dogs issues with picking up plastic items. We may as well work on that, perhaps have him carry my small single tray tackle box for fishing!
I now have a little puppy who will weave between my legs semi-consistantly however she's still not quite gotten the muscle memory to keep moving foward, we have three weaves before she goofs.
Her ball retrieves are doing okay....she is now getting 3/4 of the way back and is consistantly dropping the ball with no snarling or growling to guard it
