It can also e a big help if you have access to urine from another dog that you can place in the area you want the pup to use.
Even using their own is a big help.
Can I use mine? Just kidding.
My old girl pees and poops on command.
Im sure she will be of great help in many ways of teaching basic things.
(he may watch me and my old girl train. manners around house. things like that.)

I would be comfortable leaving a puppy in a crate for 5 hours. If and when it goes potty in the crate be sure to use an enzyme cleaner. Some of them work better than others to remove the odor. So look around wisely. 15 hours a week of work is certainly ok, get the pup on one of your days off so you have a couple days without work. Once the pup is calm in the crate and not going potty its all going to get easier. Then you just need to worry about the razor sharp teeth :p
If you have someone you could trust a newborn child with whom is very dog competent. Perhaps you could get them to stricly stop by, give water food. Outside. Back in, clean crate if mess, then take outside once more before leaving.
Will this pup become a pet or a working dog?

So, I haven't been through this in a VERY long time.
I bet the rules have changed greatly?
Im getting a puppy not to long from now.
How should I go at the potty training from 8 weeks and up.
Crate and expen? Leash the puppy and take him potty outdoors, calm praise and then back indoors? Correct?
Any other advice?
How often do we let our puppies out to potty? I have heard 2 hours? Even at night? How long till I can sleep in for 4 hours without having to let puppy out? And i have to figure if I need to hire a long term puppy sitter while im at work for 5 hours, 3 days a week?
As a puppy cannot come to work with me until vaccinations are done.. and I he is settled, and started on basic training.
Can we start with piddle pads while we are not home, like we did way back when with our puppies, in the 90s?
This is not my area of expertize. I need help. My future puppy needs your advice and knowledge.
Do it for my puppy?
Thank you.

Yes I have.
It is recommended puppy is let out as much as possible, to prevent indoor accidents.
Piddle pads are not recommended.
I wanted as much advice from as many responsible people as possible.
My questions was also a bit off the track, as my concern was what am I to do with a puppy in crate with no potty break for 5 hours.
Thank you.

Every puppy I've ever owned has been crated for 4-5 hours at a stretch, because I have a job and that's the schedule. I come home at lunch time. But from 1 pm to 6 pm, the pup is in a crate.
The pup will adapt. No puppy ever died from a burst bladder.
When you are home, tether the pup to you, and go outside with him often, as everyone has stated.
Withdraw water early in the evening and you should not have very many nights that require a middle of the night trip outside.
Housebreaking isn't really that difficult. Don't give the pup an opportunity to have an accident and they will have very few. Give them plenty of opportunities to get it right, and they will.
And don't confuse them with piddle pads or newspapers. Terrible idea.

I got the Pinker in December. It was consistently 20-30 below and he was 8 wks old and the size of a soup can.
I have a downstairs bathroom. I let him pee in there on newspaper. I had dry cat food on the sink and when he peed he got a "cat star". It took about 2 days and he was solid, going in there multiple times per day.
In the spring I had to take the newspaper outdoors to get him going, but it didn't take long, only a few days.
He is super reliable in the house.
I might never "paper train again", but in deep winter it worked fine for us.

If not I will have to speak with breeder about keeping my deposit and forwarding puppy to somebody who can afford leave from ALL work... or maybe paying breeder to keep puppy for a few extra months.
Really? Most pups are raised by normal people who have jobs and a life outside of the puppy. You're making way too big a deal out of this. The pup will be fine.
