I am really surprised to hear this much negative about Pirol. Both of the Pirol dogs that I have seen (one I own) are a spitting image of him in appearance and very close in drive. I always thought of Pirol as a dog that reproduced himself very well. I live only 2 hours from where he was located before he died and I have trained with some of the same helpers that worked him. He was thought of as a dog that should have been doing patrol work instead of sport. A very serious, "real" dog.
Oh well, that just my 2 cents.
I have a litter of 5 week old pups off of my Pirol son and Otis bitch so I guess time will tell.
Nobody ever faulted Pirol on his working ability - I saw that dog knock over great helpers on a regular basis.
And I saw a fair amount of his pups, as I was also about two hours from Gary's kennel. He seemed to throw his appearance ( not his best point, clunky lookin' fella he was ) and a bit of his thug-like attitude in the puppies that were broght to our SchH club ( of course, out of all those pups, I saw *one* get a BH, all the other oweners dropped out long before titling, not a good sign )
You also need to remember, Pirol was bred to all comers, with no regard to pedigree matching, etc. If you had the stud fee in hand, you had a breeding, period. Most of the breeding were done as out crosses, and those type of breeding usually don't produce good dogs.
