FWIW, I didn't see a tired puppy. I saw a pup whose food drive was declining throughout the session. RC even noted verbally, more than once, that his little belly was getting full. Halfway through the session, his waning drive started affecting his engagement, and he checks out a couple of times. IMHO, this is the time to cut the session off. I didn't think RC noticed, because he started rewarding even heavier, to the point where he's jackpotting at the end, rewarding for no behavior at all. It got to the point where RC was just shoving food in the dog's mouth. To me, the problem is not length of the session or attention span, but rather declining motivation from being overfed.
IMO, this is an excellent video. The training by the handler is enthusiastic and structured, and the pup is well on his way to success, However, the areas that could use improvement are readily visible if you look at the video objectively. This is a video that, not only could you be proud of, but that could also be used to identify areas to work on in subsequent training sessions.

Dial it back? I didn't dial it up. seems like every time I come back here, it's the same old BS!
Like I said, going by the recent flood of posts on this forum <-- sarcasm ... you people would just say, hey nice job good lookin 9 week old puppy! Instead of nit picking everything someone does. what a bunch of 455h0l35!
Ah yes - OP Rage Syndrome. They just explode without warning or provocation, biting and snapping. A common trigger is that they are not petted right. See the cocker spaniel thread for further discussion.

ok so I will make a public apology. I thought I could post a video to show what I have learned from Michale's training videos that I have purchased from Leerburg. They are the best out there among thousands of so called dog training videos.
I didn't think every video posted would be subject to criticism, constructive or not.
So with that said, I hope you can forgive my hastiness in judgement.
So if you want to critique me, here is one you can watch I made yesterday morning, which includes both in place and release markers with the release from both focus & the touchpad.

thank you Duane I know I need some work, it's been 5 years since I trained a puppy. I wasn't trying to "jackpot" just vary the reward to keep him guessing, as suggested in the New train with food DVD. Thanks for noticing that.

I liked the second video, too. We all could use more work, even if we're good enough to point out some things for others. There is a reason many of us don't post videos. LOL.
I would only caution you not to over-condition his name while you're shaping to the point where it becomes a command. I also teach my dog name recognition and to signal a command. Just me, but if the dog is performing a task, I don't want him to freeze when I call his name, or use his name as a recall. Just my opinion and what works for me. You might be better off using an auditory stimulator to get his focus or keep him engaged.
Good looking out. Even if folks disagree with you, you are putting in the time to get this little dude off to a terrific start. You earned your grey hairs, so I don't have to tell you that watching these videos and learning from them is going to benefit you and Jake tremendously

Cute pup! He's gonna be a fun one to work with as he grows! Looking forward to seeing what you do with him.
Pups have the attention span of gnats. And even if they don't, I treat them like they do. I ended up with the world's most mature puppy. Or at least that's how he seemed from the day I got him. Very much a big dog in a puppy body. Three - four min was the max that I'd actively engage him because I wanted to leave him wanting more and give his brain time to digest what we were working on. I'd actively engage, then distinctly end the session and dismiss him before he checked out. For me it accomplished a couple things - taught him to fully focus during training time, and taught him the difference between "work" and "free" time. It was hard for me to remember and treat him like the baby he was at times. But it was worth it!

already started with focus, engagement & markers. He is a trip, playful and smart. I have been studying all the Leerburg videos I own for a while now. Should be a big difference in training from Tibby & Fritzi to this puppy Jake.
Although Tibby & Fritzi are pretty darn smart.

Has his own channel, plan on documenting as much as I can as he grows up.
Thanks to Leerburg, Michael, Cindy, Forrest ... everybody!
Great work you folks do.
Totally GORGEOUS Puppy !!! Really lovin' his TAIL

RC, the folks here, including myself, offer their opinion for no other reason but to help the poster.
Jumping to the conclusion that someone can't read because they disagree with you isn't going to go far.
I'll offer another thought instead of the tired puppy thing.
Your on the right track but what I saw in the video was, at the very least, a bored pup that needs a break.
I'm lousy at doing video simply because I'm an old fart and computer illiterate when it comes to doing that sort of thing.
I can only tell you that I have successfully trained/titled a few dogs over the years using pretty much most methods out there.
I've used marker training only for the past 10 -12 yrs but It works when done correctly.
Everyone alters what they have learned to fit them and their dog.
If what you do works then great!
Hopefully you'll take peoples opinions in the spirit in which they are offered and not as personal attacks.

Just for the record I completely consider Bob to be a Dog Trainer (with capital letters!). He has been so helpful and encouraging for our family in the issues we've had with our dog. He is always willing to take the time to think things through and try to help solve problems or make changes in behavior. The many years of experience he's had in training lots of dogs is invaluable info for the rest of us! Regarding videos, Bob, you have sent me a couple of videos you've done in the past and I thought they were very helpful - even if your kids looked totally bored!! haha
