Tried to show this one in another area of the board. Wouldn't let me post it in the thread..
Was accenting how much "Nose Work" for fun and play as well as serious applications are popping up all over the place right now.. Here is my buddy Andy Jimenez with Falco K9 giving a demonstration of Lola The Peanut Detection Dog.. Andy has a thriving business doing a lot of scent detection work in Law enforcement and practical applications, such as this one with Lola, who has been trained to detect Peanut Oil to protect her owner who is deathly allergic to peanuts and or peanut oil of any type..
Both good points Bob. I Should be seeing him today unless he cancel's on me. Busy guy, this last couple weeks he's been in court as an expert witness, has at least one a month he does on average. Was at a bedbug seminar and did a couple interviews for news channels and the like.. Hard to nail him down, feel honored he even finds the time to slip me in now and again, when he can. Hoping he doesn't cancel on me, want to go over a few things with him to see if we can get this guy started on the right track.. Tough one for me as without the toy drive to Q in the reward and get him wanting to find the toy, I'm at a loss o. How to get him started. There has to be an end around game we can key in on.. Going to wrap a towell tomorrow, see if I can't start getting him high on this as a play toy.. There's a will there's a way.. You just had to know it wasn't going to be easy for me.. Next time if there is a next time, I'll bring my standards way up in my selection process. I was just so wanting to get a dog to work with.. Lost my Malinois at 14 years old, some four years ago. I miss working and having a dog In my life big time.. Still looking for a good Male Malinois puppy. Its not easy finding the quality in breeding I want in this area.. I'll find em just not going to happen over night.. I've even been looking to the Netherlands and Holland, Dutch lines would be sweet!

Flirt poles are great for bringing out whatever prey drive is there. You might also consider putting a rope on the toy or using a longer toy. Pets have often been yelled at about playing roughly and are hesitant to play real up close with you. It's too much pressure for them.
Yes, flirt poles can be an excellent tool. great for puppy work but I would get the dog on chasing a hand held tug/rag/whatever asap.
The flirt pole can make a not so good dog look better then it may be because it will be moving quicker and over a larger area.
Both the tug, etc and the flirt pole require a little bit skill.
Knowing how and when to let the dog "catch" the tug, toy, flirt pole.
You need to know how to frustrated the dog in order to bring out more drive and when to let the dog catch the article in order for it to be successful and not give up from to many misses on the tug/flirt pole.
Ellis has an excellent DVD on training with the tug and I really like his ADVANCED CONCEPTS IN MOTIVATION - Turning Your Reward into an Event.
I think this particular DVD may be over looked to often concerning drive building.
