I checked his mouth today and the growth now fully covers two of his front teeth. When I first noticed it only 2 weeks ago it only covered the one tooth. This sucker is growing fast and it's starting to bother Tanner. He licks himself as a way to fuss with it and his licking has increased in the last few days.
Tanner was passed around a lot before he came to me. 6 homes that we know of. It makes him extremely anxious whenever I move and I'm about to move again. If the vet says I only have a couple of months left with him before he starts feeling bad I'm considering putting him to sleep before I move. I don't want him to spend his last days stressed and anxious from the move.
Cathy I am heart sorry for this, for Tanner and for you, I know how stressful moving is for dogs that are comforted by routine and familiarity, it takes the anxious ones a while to feel secure again.
I know you must be devastated by the speed this is going, and I know you will do only the right thing for your boy.
Cathy,
Tanner could not be in better hands. I too would not subject him to the anxiety of a move on top of declining health. A peaceful pain free passing to the bridge is the greatest gift you can bestow on him.

Oh Cathy, my heart ACHES for your and Tanner -- This highly malignant cancer is already becoming a Big Stressor for him, IMHO ... That alone, but especially combined with your upcoming move, would indicate this is the time for a pre-emptive euthanasia to SPARE both of you from an Untenable Ending but particularly as your last GIFT of Lovingkindness to Tanner.
There may be pain in the bone, like a tooth ache. If not today, soon.
IMO, euthanasia before the stress of the move and before the tumor becomes the ugly mass that it will evolve into would be the correct management.
Yes, hard truths, Betty -- Since he's already focusing on the tumor by licking at it, this indicates to me anyway, that he's stressing over the mass & it probably hurts him now Just speaking from personal experience when Shaka my Akita was the victim of a Very AGGRESSIVE & INOPERABLE Tumor last year, I wound not wait any longer (always easier said than done alas)...
In the matter of 3 days it's gone from nothing below the gum line to a large lump there. Tanner has an appointment to be put to sleep tomorrow at 11:15am. I'm glad I spotted the tumor when it was just tucked behind his canine tooth. It's given me the time to say goodbye that I wouldn't have had otherwise.
