I have "Old Yellar' and 'Where the Red Fern Grows' on video and watched, on suggestion from Candi, 'Good By My Lady' on Youtube.
There was a sequel to Where the Red Fern 'Grows' some time back and it wasn't very good.

I was lucky to have grown up in the town next to where the author of WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS lived and he came and talked to our class several times. He signed our books and we also got to be the first to see the original movie when it first came out.
He said there were only 2 parts in the book that were not absolutely true - if you PM me I will tell you what parts - I don't want to publicly give away his secrets
He also said that he got about half way done with the first manuscript and he got mad at himself because his grammar was not very good and he ended up burning it. His wife said the story needed to be told and helped him with his grammar and was integral in the book getting published.
Just a couple fun facts
Kel
I sent you a PM for this, Kelly, thanks

There are Two excellent Films of the Original Material from the book WTRFG -- The first is a 1974 movie ... The other GOOD one is a 2004 "re-make" (this is NOT the so-so sequel, mind you) with Dave Matthews of the Dave Matthews Band playing the Dad There's a SEQUEL to the movie "Old Yeller" which is fairly bad (I think it's called "Young Yeller" or some other silly thing).
As Bob mentioned in one of his posts on this thread, if you can find the film "Good-Bye, My Lady" on YouTube definitely WATCH it with a whole box of Kleenex because it's right up there with "The Yearling" as a CLASSIC coming-of-age animal film !!!

"A Dogs Life" is another about the same time as "Good By My Lady".
It was about the life of a Bull Terrier.
Don't know it it's the same one but I believe Charlie Chaplain did a silent one about a Dog's Life.
Big Red by Disney.
Chainsaw about a JRT living in a logging camp is another I recall by Disney.
I think the later ones(60s + ) by Disney were ok but not the same as the oldies but then being an old fart may have something to do with that.

I am a young fart Bob going on 36, and the kids and I watch Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, the Munsters, and every bugs bunny ever made as our movie nights..my 11 year old walks around whistling the Laurel and Hardy tune.. We almost got them hooked on One Foot in the Grave.. And as a treat we watch Twilight Zone and a few Alfred Hitchcock pays to live in the bush I guess!! They also listen to 60's music on sirius..his fav is the Beatles, she prefers Johnny Cash and Cyrkle..
Which is why I must get those movies!

And who could EVER forget the OLD film "Lassie, Come Home!" with Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor as the children
