Regarding the weight loss, and the skin....there was so much involvement of the skin, that would require, and use up, a tremendous amount of calories. Almost like a burn. Takes a pretty good diet to repair skin like that.
Hope you can get it all sorted out!

Wow! Sorry for your loss!
Lucky girl to have you!! Make sure the vet checks organ function!
She will flourish in your home, lucky girl to have you to call family now!
I second probiotics! I hope she recovers quickly! She is gorgeous, under all that raw skin!

Non-update update. My fiancee brought Eleanor to the vet Friday for her exam and allergy tests. The vet referred us to a dermatologist: http://southeastvetderm.vet/
The soonest they can see us is in a month, and that's just going to be a consultation. She has thrown up her kibble twice, so I've moved her to 100% raw until we know more. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this place tests for food allergies at all. Which I'd really like to know if she has, since she's a shop dog and keeping the public from treating her is a part time job in itself.
On the plus side, her hair is growing back at a good rate. Rump is still a bit raw, but it typically seems to work from the front back. We went to a dog-friendly pub Saturday and a waitress snapped a great photo of her (the portrait mode blurred her less than perfect backside).

Hi Chip, I read your story only today, as I had only little time for the forum lately. I do feel very much with you for the loss of your wonderful dogs. I know how it hurts.
How good you adopted Eleanor. Everyone can see that she will have a great chance with you as owner. The first pictures of her were heartbreaking and seeing her improvement now is amazing. What a charming girl you have!
When I found long time ago my Lab-Mix on the street she looked like your Eleanor. We had then a good Vet who examined everything thoroughly. She was skin and bones and suffered from cinomose. It was in the beginning quite a time of stress, full of concerns. But then she started recovering surprisingly quickly.
Never lose your courage, Chip. It is a wonderful experience to see such an animal getting better and better. All the sadness, concerns, efforts ... will prove worth it and change into indescribable joy.

I agree! It's great to see her looking so good compared to the "before" pics. I hope the derm vet can help you get some of the remaining issues sorted out. Keep us updated on her progress!
P.S. I love the name Eleanor.
