I use nope, as a warning here. The word has a meaning. Stop it. It work's as a back up with a correction. I find nope is calmer than no.
And the kids get the no. Everyone in the end knows to whom I am talking to!

Great idea against confusion. I'm going to use "nope" now for my husband, so he doesn't mean I was just talking to the dogs. Tends sometimes to smart avoidance tactics.

I do still use no and in a very firm voice but it's when Trooper does something that I don't want him doing for any reason.
That may mean fence fighting with the neighbors dog.
He rarely does that anymore and never when I'm out there.
When I'm inside a single tap on the window will stop it cold.
I also use quit for something that I don't want the dog to do at the time as when I might be working in the garden and he pesters me to play fetch.
He may just lay down near me to whine and pout a bit with his kong in his mouth.
He knows it's a temporary thing because he'll be back trying again in ten mins or so.
For "ME" that's not a problem simply because I didn't insist he stop an unwanted behavior.

That with the tap on the window doesn't work with mine yet. Only if I go outside and say a loud, firm "não". But not each time. Sometimes they don't bother about what I'm saying. They don't bark so often any more, but this is probably not my merit, I guess it is their age
A word in the sense like "quit" i have also, though until now only if I want them not to touch something. I can put a bowl filled with high value treats directly in front of their nose, say "quit" and they don't touch it until I give permission even if I turn my back and walk away for some meters. I can see it, because I'm walking towards a glassdoor which reflects.
It also works for not touching other things or remaining calm on walks, when a chicken family passes by. So far they've learned some impulse control.
But when a bunch of little monkeys turns up in our yard it is absolutely hopeless.

Wow, what a perfect training method!
Well, I don't understand anything about chicken herding, but I encounter lots of them on walks, because people leave them run free. Once I saw a stray dog, who caught and killed one of them. This exited Bruxinha so much that I had problems to hold her back. Even my "quit" didn't work any more.
What concerns the monkeys I at least don't need to be scared about them, they are much too quick for the dogs. But their speedy and high jumps seem to anger the dogs awfully.

Chickens will scatter all over the place where as ducks and sheep will try and stay together.
The herky jerky movement of chickens is also a big stimulant for a dog.
Not so much anger but I'm guessing the speed and high jumps of the monkeys is also a big stimulant to a dog's prey drive.

We have also a bird here called Bem-te-vi. I think in English it is Great Kiskadee. He has learned exactly what time I train my dogs and even if I make an extra session to irregular times, he understands: Now perhaps I'll catch a treat.
He observes sitting on the roof and when I throw something for a dog he comes in the speed of a rocket directly in front of them and steels it. I really have the impression that Soicks hates them because of this. Even if they are sitting quietly somewhere she runs towards them and barks like a dool.

That is interesting. It would be easy to believe the dogs could rreally develop a reason to get that bird.
Can you reward them by hand delivery instead of tossing it?

I normally reward by hand delivery, though sometimes I toss to make them run a bit. It is then somehow like a reward event with the advantage that I don't need to run so much. It also teaches them the away- command and then the recall.
The birds are much to quick and can turn extremly rapid, when they see a dog coming too near. I don't sympathize in this point with dogs. We all have to learn to live with some anoying things in live, isn't it?
