It's always been cat central here, but the established moggys were smart enough to stay out of the back garden because of the Boerboels!
From what the other neighbours tell me, this new cat goes into everyone's houses, and confronts the cats that live in them, it's a damn nuisance.
I did say jokingly to my youngest yesterday, that :
I have an old puppy crate I could stick it in, and relocate it to another part of Norfolk
GREAT idea, Tracey

I would LOVE a screen door, and window screens, the summer here is so brief though, I don't think I could justify the cost
I think you're right, I am being too soft, it's time for the bucket of water treatment.
I must have the only dogs in the neighbourhood that are scared of a cat, and I know for certain that Sugar and Kaiser would have despatched it the first time it came into the garden, just the sight of a cat through the window sent them into a fury, and I've never seen such utter nerve in a cat like this one.

Maybe the attitude of that cat (bold around dogs, etc.) makes them uneasy.
I too would probably use the water-soaking treatment -- not harmful, but I think pretty unpleasant for most cats.
By the way, there are very cheap adjustable window screens that don't have to be perfect fits and aren't permanently installed. Please remember that they are not secure against intruders at all. I've used them in the past, before getting "real" screens installed, and they were very useful to me.

By the way, it was a cat who prompted my purchase of a couple of those adjustable screens many years ago. Not one like the cat harassing you -- just a regular cat. I was in my living room one night, I think watching TV, with the windows open just a foot or so, when I saw movement in my peripheral vision. There was a cat walking calmly through the room, looking around, just taking a stroll through.
After my heart stopped pounding, I went and opened the kitchen door and held it for the cat, who, still very calm, went out.
I pretty much never forgot how startled I was to suddenly be not alone.
Another ETA
Warning ... maybe this is no longer true, but when I used those adjustable screens, I found that they will rust if left in the window while it's raining.

Thanks for the links, Connie, the prices are actually pretty reasonable.
I know what you mean about being spooked finding a cat in the house, when I saw the beast sitting staring at me on the stairs it made me jump! He just stared at me and wasn't remotely startled and didn't run when I charged after him, he just sort of sauntered!
Rain, we have in abundance, so duly noted on the rust issue
Thanks, Connie.

Well, it was twenty-five-plus years ago that I had the ones that rusted, so it may be that they are made of something non-rusty now. Who knows, what with all these newfangled materials, like aluminum ....

PS
Wow ... you sure are right about the commercial repellants affecting dogs as well as cats. I just read each item on two "Ten Best" lists, and there wasn't one that I'd use in my dogs' yard.

The water treatment with a bit of citronella would be my vote.
Even with a hose end sprayer for distance.
It's a shame that the rights of some pets can invade the rights of others.

I guess I'm mean. I'd live trap the thing and give it about a minute solid of being sprayed with the hose before I released it. Nothing like a good solid aversion treatment. Nothing comes in MY yard and is given license to bother my animals.

i had a problem with a neighbors cat a few years ago. What worked for me in the back yard which is a wooden privacy fenced I sprayed along the top of the fence with citronella spray. I would also spray around the front yard. That seemed to deter the cat from coming up and over the fence to get into my yard. It was a bit hit or miss on keeping it out of the front yard but spraying it with the hose got that point across. I do wish you the best of luck.
