They have very white teeth too. My dog gets comments on his pearly whites all the time. I envy him.

I used to groom a pair of toy poodles that had lost all their teeth. They had the WORST dog breath of all time. I mixed a bottle of Listerine "cool mint" and water just for when they came. You should have seen their faces after I sprayed their tongues. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If you had to deal with them panting in your face you would do it too... it was beyond bad.

I think you become a connoseur of the gross when you have dogs. I mean, who else would even think to examine dog crap, sniff dog breath, smell dog ears, and even take a whiff of dog feet, but a dog lover? You can tell so much about your dog's health by its various odors. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I am completely in agreement here. One of my dogs had breath bad enough to bowl you over from across the room....no exxageration either. She'd try to give me kisses and it was all I could do to keep from throwing up. Thankfully, once I switched her over to a BARF diet (well, a MODIFIED BARF diet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) all her stinky breath went away.

I have no problem with bathing dogs as mine is done every 1 to 2 weeks. No skin problems. When I first got my dog the vet was horrified that I bathed (my dog, that is <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> ) that often. But when you think about it show dogs ( bad word) get bathed very often and don't have any problems. I think if a dog spends a lot of time in the house it should be bathed. The point is to get a good conditioning shampoo and rinse VERY well. Always check for skin reactions to shampoo and water.
Cleaning ears once a week and brushing teeth are a good idea as well.
Since you have a short coated dog bathing isn't as important as you can rinse with a sponge and water dirt (and other things) from his coat as others have suggested. A good leave in coat spray that smells nice can be applied, but some dogs just have a lot of B.O.
