I couldn't tell if the hair regrowth is coarser or not, he is definetly not losing hair, hopefully he is losing his puppy hair like you said, I told my wife Malinois sheds less than German Shepherd, but as of right now, he sheds just as much just shorter hair.
Have you tried giving the dog a bath and using the undercoat rake at the same time? Getting the hair wet sometimes helps it come out easier. Sometimes also sudden weather changes such as a warm up can cause an animal to shed uneeded fur. I have a siberian, talk about a lot of fur to shed!
Next time I give a bath I will use the undercoat, yes the weather here is all mess up in TX., it was freezing one week and this week I have to turn on AC in the car.
I wonder did the dog food help the shedding. My 15 month golden sheds so much,i brush her every day with an undercoat rake and a two sided brush. i am trying a spray called lo shed, but i cant tell much yet. alabama weather changes alot too
Try giving her Grizzly Salmon Oil - it's kinda spendy so we use 1200mg fish oil capsules; each gsd gets 4-6 per day squirted on their food; shedding is minimal. Need to supplement with 400iu vitamin E daily with the fish oil.
I have a 2 yr old GSD on raw food plus daily fish oil caps (3 x 1000mg) and some E. Previous skin problems are practically all gone and shedding is minimal as well. Most people and the vet comment on how good her coat looks.
