Great information with practical, common sense training techniques for puppies. OK, Ed, now we need a video about raising a litter from birth to 8 weeks.....care and imprinting. I know you need something else to do!
Sharon, My response to people who ask me "why do you want a dog like that" is....."I like dogs with a temperament like mine" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Debbie -
The video "Whelping Puppies" video 118 goes week by week from whelp to age eight weeks. Ed goes over the developmental milestones and covers some introductions to drive for the puppies ( but the video is not specific to working litters, although those are the only ones that you see in the video ).
Maybe there's a puppy imprinting video in the works.....? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I would also like to see Ed produce a puppy imprinting DVD. Has anyone done a study to see if imprinting a litter increases the chance of developing a working adult? I only see positives, if the imprinting is done correctly. I think it would also help breeders decided, which puppy goes to what home.
I have been collectibg video of puppies for a new selection testing DVD. Will is correct - my older Bite Training Puppies video has a section on selection testing. What I am working on is to video litters from the time they are born until they leave - so people can see the subtle changes from week to week up to the point where we can do the tests. After breeding as many litters as I have (over 340 in my career) I see things and take them for granted. I want to try and break it down to help people.
When I finish this I will announce it on my table of contents. It will be late summer or fall
Video is just awsome!! Those dogs have drive!! I really liked the little mal, and then the shepherds were awsome too. I reccomend buying this video if you have the slightest intrest in raising a working pup.
