We still have one Giant. The boxer we lost several years ago to an abcess on the prostate. Nobody could find what was wrong with him and by the time it was found he was septic and died in the O.R.
VanCamp,
I just refuse to accept the status quo. That is what caused the problem in the first place. If I harp long enough it may get through to some of the people. The working folks are the ones most likely to understand and actually make some changes. Many of the conformation people think all dogs should have the same temperament, and actively try to breed good sound temperaments out!!!
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
We've work with amstaffs and pit bulls.
You can find good working dogs in either catagory, you just have to know where to look.
There is no difference between good examples.
It is very hard to tell the difference unless you look at the papers closely.
And contrary to "popular" belief, the true "game bred" dogs aren't any better at bite-work and they generally tend to be rather soft. Regardless, It really just depends on the dog.
You can find good dogs in the adba, ukc or akc. SORE

Nice point.
dbstaf, I went to the site you posted and had a little problem. I registered in the chat area and someone had already been using the name VanCamp as their handle. You don't happen to know who that is do you? Another VanCamp? Hmm...
I'm about to show my ignorance here, please bear with me...
How are y'all talking about the DIFFERENT breeds American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier when just last year,my only child presented me with a "watch dog" (and yeah he'll watch a thief rob us blind good as any other dog)who has papers saying he is BOTH?
I'm getting confuzzled,and I'm sure Alzheimer's ain't the cause! Educate me please.
AKC registers AmStaffs, UKC and ADBA register APBT's. Dogs can be dual registered, depending on their pedigree. I'm not sure on the details of what requirements there are, but it's fairly common.
There are physical differences, such as AmStaffs tend to be bigger, have blockier heads and are more stocky than 'old-style' APBT's.
While they're generally different breeds (or at least different strains within a larger breed type), because of the dual-registration thing, you can have a dog that's both an AmStaff and a Pit Bull. Yes, pain. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
