as a pit bull owner, I would advise ignoring basically everything the media tells you about the breed. talk to knowledgeable people (Red Star seems like a good place). this morning I heard that presas were bred for hunting pit bulls (???).
the Presa is rapidly gaining popularity, which means that the vast majority will be poorly-bred crap, especially since it's a large, 'protection' breed. I have a feeling the Whipple thing will only increase the 'tough dog' image for the thugs, resulting in a lot of dangerous dogs being bred for profit.

YES, that is my new mission in life. I'm going to breed Pitt hunting Presa Canarios. It's gonna KICK ASS!
That is the coolest thing I have ever heard in my life. What is the normal habitat of the Pitt Bull? Where can I find the most dangerous ones?Where am I gonna test my hunters, anybody know?
If Pitt Bull hunting isn't legal now, you guys just wait. With all the anti-Pitt laws the media and scared dog-dumb people out there are going to give me the key to a city somewhere. Or a national good citizen award! I'm gonna be famous. Buy one of VanCamp's ultimate Pitt Hunters, you'll never have to worry about your kids or Poodles again.
This is just gonna be great. . .

I just wanted to say my presa sucks at hunting Pitts. The few he has encountered he insists on trying to lick to death, particularly one little attractive red nosed female.
Also, their is no Pit bulldog in the breed. There is most likely some traditional Bull and Terrier, but no Pit. The Bardino Majero, which is a herding breed looks very similiar to the Dutch Shepard, is a major part of the dogs makeup.
There are several big time American puppymillers, who have made a fortune off of mixing other breeds to pass off as Perro de Presa Canarios. They have used Great Danes, Neos, OEMs, Pits, and several other breeds. They were making a killing off these dogs. It is very easy to recognize these breeders. They advertise the RARE blue presa, or the Rare white presa. These colors don't exist in the breed.

Also, the breed is not banned in Spain. It is recognized by the Spanish Kennel Club as a national breed. There are several breeders in Spain who show their dogs throughout Europe.

VVG, and others,
I'd be very interested in anyones experience with Dogo Argentino and protection.
I have a pup on the way, and am will be training in Schutzhund. Any insight into the breeds general tendencies in training, reactions to various reinforcements, punishments, pressures, sport situations etc. etc. would obviously be very helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Wayne

Wayne, I am just curious as to why you have a puppy on the way if you don't already know the answers to these questions that you are asking? I mean, why a Dogo and not another breed for schutzhund? I just don't get why you would be buying a pup you know nothing about?????

This was in the Chicago Tribune yesterday.
I'll sum it up.
Due to the trial with the death of a woman by this type of dog there is a HUGE demand for it!
(JMO) I guess all the rotties and pits will now be replaced with this new small p. compensation dog.
Am I allowed to say that?

Hold on, wait a minute, I've got a better idea. Never mind Pitt Bulls, I could hunt news media producers and reporters with the Canarios. Now THAT would be a service to Americans everywhere.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
I just wonder how many thugs are now on this band wagon to get this dog just because of the attack.
It irks me when people get a dog to make themselves look like a bad a**
