Make sure you get a Sprenger prong collar. I have 4 prong collars, two I bought seperately and hated. I don't know what the problem is, but the chain that runs to the d-ring on the 2 cheap petsmart/petco collars binds very often, which resulted in an overcorrection when I pulled harder to get through the binding or a little to no correction when the chain was stuck. The Herm Sprenger collars I use now do not bind like this.
Also, the prongs themselves look like they have been filed to give them a rounded point, where the cheap ones look like they were just cut leaving a hard edge, which I think made my dogs scratch a lot more when I was using the cheaper collars.
I tried one of the quick release collars and it came loose one time while we were working in my backyard, which was enough for me to return it. I want a 'quick connect' clasp not really a quick release clasp. I would think there is a better way to do this than the ones I've seen... I hated putting the standard prong on, but after a couple weeks it became very easy to put on.
we have just recently gone to the "tiny-link" prong collars. its much easier to get a good fit because when you add or remove a link you are making only a tiny adjustment, unlike the larger prong collars. the dogs are very aware of the new prong collars since there are many times more prongs. that enables you to give very small corrections- - - thumb and forefinger with good results. we like the idea of having the collar in place and not having to use it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
