heh guys, can't you be nice? this fella was just asking for information. maybe he should have checked out the back ground in advance and maybe he did end up with a dog that's too much for him, but then again maybe not. best thing to do when you're not sure is to have it evaluated by a competent person, decide what is the best course for the dog and if that is what you intend to use it for. if not, sell it to someone who can train it and work it properly. we've all made mistakes in buying dogs that end up being more or less than we had hoped for. just be honest with yourself. the dog may be perfect for you, but if its not, do yourself and the dog a big favor by getting him to the right owner. good luck.

It's a rare thing that a showline gets PH1 titles (I'm sure it could or has happened, so I won't say that they haven't).

I get passionate about these peeves, if you've got a problem with it, don't read it, but it is a big problem.
Tells me NOTHING about you. You didn't ask about ME, maybe you should learn how to type what you're thinking rather than expecting everyone to understand what you're after.
Great analogy! You read me so well. I must be crazy. You must be dense, "you" used in that analogy is a generic use of the term. I suggest some remedial English courses at the local JC so that you might be able to communicate with the intelligent people. If anyone should assume responsibility it should be the breeder. I don't have a problem with with someone wanting to educate themselves about their dog. I do have a problem with Omega-Wolf type replies.
"Intelligent people" is a generic term. Excluding you is specific. "YOU" is a pronoun. YOU replied to me, making me the one being addressed.

Ok, even though I think the replies were meant in GENERAL and taken to heart, I am going to ask that all knife throwing be cut out of the conversation from here on out. If anyone has CONSTRUCTIVE feedback for Nicki then they may continue. Otherwise, I am going to send you all to your crates and close this thread.. K?

Constructive. . .I think I can stay pretty close to constructive. . .even though I agree with some of Mike's comments. . .and his zeal.
I'd call that a working line dog.
I think it was a wise choice that you bought a female, because the type of dog that is going to be coming out of Collin isn't likely going to be a cupcake, couch potato, creampuff dog.
Collin is freaking linebred on Mink like 2-2, if I remember off the top of my head, and Mink's blood comes down from nice dogs. Judging by the pedigree alone, any dog with that much genetic potence coming from Mink isn't going to be a beginner type dog.
Even if the pup was well selected for the home she went to, Nicki YOU had better get as serious as a trainwreck and train this pup the right way. If you are a real novice dog trainer you had better find some help. Not the kind of help at Petsmart, or any other worthless training outfit. Find someone that has experience training working bred dogs and working GSDs in particular. Also, socialize the crap out of her. . .hard core socialization. Everywhere you go try to take that pup and provide her with positive experiences with everything.
I would also suggest some of Ed's tapes, like the Basic Obedience tape.
Good luck, don't be put off by the hammering. We all get hammered from time to time, it is only because there are so many zealot working GSD people here.
Serious as a trainwreck, I'm not kidding.
Mink can pass on low drive thresholds (i.e. react very quickly to stimuli for good or bad), lots and lots of drive, enough hardness to make training difficult, enough aggression to get someone bit. . .maybe even you. . .and basically the type of dog no pet owner should have unless they are in it to win it. In it for the long haul.
In it for the love of it. . . .or any other bad 80's sports action cliche you can think of.
Have fun, there is no better breed of dog than the working German Shepherd Dog.

Mike, this could be her first dog. There's no need to jump up & down. Curiosity is not a crime, and neither is not knowing everything. You don't become an expert dog trainer over night. And you surely don't learn the things to look for in your dreams. It comes with trial & error and hands-on experience as you probably know. Think back to your first dog, the little knowledge you had, and all the mistakes you made.

hi again,
I want to thank the people that posted with the positive feed back and to those with the negative what can I say... From what ive been told the MINK bloodline is a hard working one. so ill let nature take it course and see how we go.
To own such dog from those bloodlines (Mink)! is an honour, And yes I have an excellent pro who will lead me into the correct direction.
thanks again.

Nicki, Hope you enjoy your new GSD! There is always help available if you run into a problem. Most likely you'll do just fine. The main thing with any dog is to establish a relationship of mutual respect. Unless this is your first dog ever in your whole life this shouldn't be a problem. Make sure your dog always remembers that you pay the food bills. , she works for you...you are the boss under all circumstances!
Have fun!
