It seems that it would be advantageous to get a pup on the puppy sleeve as soon as its feasible to do so.
LC: You can do this at the same time as swinging the sleeve around your head. When the dog bites, slowly reel the sleeve in, staying low to keep the dog in prey, and slip your arm into the sleeve. That way he’ll make an association between the first exercise, the flying of the prey item and biting the sleeve when it’s on a person.
LC: I do this occasionally in teaching a dog to bite and building it up.
Lou Castle has been kicked off this board. He is an OLD SCHOOL DOG TRAINER with little to offer.
Of course its nice to get the dog on the pup sleeve when you can but first you want to be sure when it gets on the sleeve it is completely uninhibited. In other words you want the dog to first learn to enjoy the prey item so much that when it is on your arm it doesnt make any difference. To put it another way ,dont be looking for short cuts in building prey drive, you want to develop a strong prey foundation.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it!
Here I go sound like a newbie again but from a laymen prespective, the Rotties display seemed more vicious and heartfelt. Growling and thrashing she seemed more involved.
Where as the GSD seemed more controlled and confident especailly the second time when he turned back and caught it midair head on.
But I seem to like the Rotties responce better should I train the GSD to give that type of responce. Would tying him out rev him up more???
Oh yeah Gordon
I'm taking your suggestions to heart and will try devise a curriculum of training. Research, study then applied concept, I've heard this before but I must be hard headed or maybe I listen better to logic rather, You "dumbass don't you know that you need to..." .
Yeah, I sure would like to train with someone like Kevin Sheldahl, I got the tape where he competed in Germany great stuff. I am about 150 miles away from Alburquerque. I'll look through his training schedule online, for more details. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
