All you folk who are feeling jealous right now of todd keep this in mind: Think about how hard it is to go on holiday when you have a couple of dogs now multiply that by the abovementioned numbers!
My father and his girlfriend are doing this in a fairly large way and if they need a holiday one of the two has to stay behind whilst the other takes the kids with them.
I will be moving out to their property soon but unless the one dog that does not like me gets a personality overhaul then nothing will change. Right now he scares the living S#&T out of me (only dog on the planet to date to be able to do this to me)70kg of big black GSD with REALY big teeth. I think ill just keep feeding treats through the small holes to his yard and pen
Don't want to dampen anyones plans/ideas but its good to know all the pitfalls beforehand!

Julie, this is easy to get around. So maybe you can give them a true holiday. Throw the food over the fence. Water through the wire. If they have 2 sections to the kennel close the dog in one and clean the other. Repeat with a nice juicy bone on the other side to lure him over so you can clean that side of the run.
I work at home with dog related business in the summer and fall but I can really identify with the not being able to go away in the summer part!
Also my dogs don't bring in a lick of money until there is snow on the ground but they do eat and poop all year round. Good kennel help is hard to find at what I can afford to pay so I stay home in the summer and dream of snow. Once fall training starts I am too busy to want to go anywhere.
Who you kidding? I get to take a holiday. It just so happens to be when no else in the world is. I go to amusement parks middle of the week off season...DisneyWorld included no lines.
I have seen all the blockbuster movies the day they come out. 10:00 am show. No one there.
Kennel help. Yeah, now thats the challenge. Here I would like you to clean up dog Sh*t. Do it well. Take care of the dogs and this is all I can pay. HEHE. Now thats fun.
Todd, If your kennel wasn't so far away I'd work for free. It's a shame there's no work for me in Iowa.
Where I live everyone wants their dogs trained for free. It would be alot of fun but the bill collectors would be really pissed.

either they want free training or want a black lab to go get their ducks out of the water for them!
not a whole lot of interest in dogsports down on the bayou, but hey, we're working on changing that!

From what I have gathered from both reading and chatting with different breeders, they RARELY make $$. I think it could be a great idea for say..a 'side-job' for the right person but I'd not rely on it as full time income right off the bat.
