I switched my GSD from Frontline Topspot to K9 Advantix for the last two applications because mosquitos are severe here in Hawaii. Before this change, she had no problem with ticks or fleas, just mosquitos. Lately, I find and remove ticks on her every day. I checked with my vet about the effectivness of the product, and was told it is just as good but is more soluable in water, especially salt. But she had not been in water since the last application two weeks ago. I will go back to Frontline as soon as it is safe to reapply. So I just gave her fresh garlic. Does anyone know a product that is safe to treat the yard with?
Whoever will only draw conclusions from the eminence of his own particular point of view, will obtain a distorted picture.-v. Stephanitz
Mike, I'd be willing to bet that you live in an area that has nil or very little flea or tick infestation. Garlic doesn't work for dick. I guarantee that, without a doubt, it DOES NOT WORK.
We tried at our kennel years ago, and still had mega problems with fleas. We even did a full spray of the property, treatment of the dogs all before winter, then treated in spring again and sprayed. . .all the while on garlic. Second week into summer we had fleas everywhere and the dogs were miserable again.
I think you must be lucky.
Frontline and similar products are the greatest thing since eletricity in my book. All those years of collars, dips, spraying, diet changes, worming, worry, hot spots, dogs chewing themselves raw. . .all a thing of the past.
Robert, I do live out in the country. There's lots of acreage out here & LOTS of ticks. Raw garlic DOES in fact work for my dogs, but no it won't help your dick, I'm sorry. I pick off burs & stickers almost every day but the tick count has dropped considerably. I started using garlic originally just for health(a natural antibiotic), the pest preventive was just an added bonus I stumbled onto. I'm not against using Frontline or other products alike, I think they work very well. I just don't have a reason to use them anymore.
I'm not much of a poster here, but feeding your dog garlic not only doesn't work for squat, there's also a potential for making your dog damm sick, as garlic can cause hemolytic anemia in most dogs, given enough of it regularly.
I have a 9wk old mal pup that is on a raw diet. She is licking and scrapping her teeth on concrete and even trying to eat it when she finds small pieces, also eating lots of dirt. Is something missing in her diet? Minerals, calcium...etc. I've never had a pup do this to this extent, then again I've never had a malagator pup either!
If you haven't already done so, you might want to take a stool sample in to the vet to be checked for parasites. A few years ago I had a puppy that had an insatiable desire to eat rocks and it turned out he was pretty wormy. I've had other people tell me that they have seen dogs eat weird stuff trying to soothe their irritated gut.
