heh folks, now we are finally getting somewhere. in some of the other threads regarding working lines, bloodlines and dogs for newbies, people have been asking what direction they need to be looking for a suitable dog. this looks like a good answer to that question. i will certainly keep this in mind. thanks and keep the info coming.
if there are no dogs in heaven, then when i die i want to go where they went. ---will rogers
One thing not mentioned in selection of a puppy for someone unfamiliar with good working lines is trusting in a GOOD breeder to do the selection for you. As much as I think (think being the key word here <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> )I know about dogs, I would have a Todd Gaster or Ed Frawley select the puppy for me. The best puppy from the best litter from the best lines can still turn out to be a nightmare if you choose wrong. Todd's comment on what Flinks said about what to hope for in a litter is a perfect example. I'm in Search and Rescue. I probably would not want the same pup that would be selected for a PSD, but both could be found in the same litter of a good breeding. Trust a GOOD breeder.
JMO, but I think Verwin Blitsaerd is one of the great underbred stud dogs. His blood won't have anything close to the positive impact that I personally think it could have had on the breed.
I wanted to post a special thank you to all who contributed. Everyone was very generous in sharing there thoughts and experiences. Troll sounds like a terrific dog that can really add to the breed overall. This has really helped a lot. I'm much clearer now.
