As a sidenote, my brother in law is a vetrinarian and I have purchesed "animal" meds from him for my own use in my disaster medical kit. Procaine Pen, Pen vk, Tetracycline, Epinephrine, Lidocaine and some others that I won't mention. He told me his price for the penicillian tabs and the very same tabs with the next lot number is licensed for human use and cost's 10x as much. He did not say that there is "never" any difference between animal meds and human meds but the human meds cost more primarily for product liability costs (thank you trial lawyers) and they garner an obscene amount of money for the pharmacuetical industry. The vial of lidocaine I got cost less than $5 and the same vial for human use would be over $50 so go figure. BTW this is a disaster medical kit and I don't regularly "medicate" myself.
Originally posted by Tonya Slack: I'm not sure of how much difference there is. One thing, my hubby accidentally injected himself with a dose meant for an unruly cow. Let me tell you he had severe cramps for awhile afterward before it wore off ROFLOL!
Hahahahahahah! You made me laugh myself crazy.....lol. My goodness, how did that happen? I bet he now appreciates you better after undergoing those cramps eh?

When the dog is confused, blame not the dog but shoot the handler.
He was the breeding manager on a dairy farm. One of the cows had delivered, but had not delivered the placenta. She was kind of a mean cow who was a first time mother. The cow was giving him a rough time and he thought she needed the oxytocin, so he got the shot ready. She was jumping around and bumped him when he was ready to inject her! So he got the dose himself LOL
Now he knows what it feels like to be in labor ROFLOL! It's too bad there was nothing to push out ha ha! Anyway, that happened while I was prego with our first child.

BTW, do you happen to know about the human Oxytocin and Animal Oxytocin as mention by Ron? Any diff? Sorry, no I don't know if there is a difference. As mentioned in other posts, my guess would be that there is not much difference but you never know.
most drugs meant for animals are prepared in different dilution strengths - ie, more or less active ingredients per cc based on what it is goign to be used for ... when we use anesthesia drugs on dogs at the equine clinic, it often means a few mintues with the calculator!
When Kyra had her litter, I was concerned by the time after the 4rd pup, I knew there was one, possibly 2 more...so took her to the vets, I think one pup was on the way and she held it in on the ride...we x-rayed her, and she was given a shot of oxy; had the pup which was not vigourous and had its lungs filled with fluids - we lost that one After it was delivered, a short wait and another dose, we got the last pup who was very vigorous at bith, like the first three. When in doubt, if you have a good relationship iwth your vet, give him a heads up so you can get him/her on the phone...
