Ok, I just got off the phone with the lady I've been e-mailing about fostering. We talked about the three dogs that I was thinking might do well. She said Sal doesn't really like to play with other dogs, so she is going to bring Charlie, the dobie mix, over on Wednesday to see how he and Gypsy get along, and to check out my home and everything. She doesn't have a picture of him, but says he's got the typical dobie markings, complete with docked tail (good, he won't be swiping things off the coffee table with it lol!), but not the slender snout of a dobie. She says he's smaller than a dobie, and has hound-ish ears, but he does not bark and howl like a hound. He's between 1-2 years old (Gypsy's 2) and loves to play. He's crate trained, housebroken (which, she's going to work on with him at her house just to be sure, before he comes to stay with me), and sounds absolutely perfect!
I'm so excited! I hope things go well!

Yesterday Gypsy and I got to meet Charlie (dobie/hound mix) for the first time and first off, let me just say that he is adorable!!!!!!! He's just a hair smaller than Gypsy, but he loves to play rough, and so does Gypsy.
They got along PERFECTLY! We introduced them in a neighbor's front yard (neutral territory) and they sniffed each other with shoulder hackles raised - for about 5 seconds - and then it was play, Play, PLAY! lol
I wasn't able to take pictures because about 5 minutes into the introduction, the sky opened up on us and it rained like there was no tomorrow. I will get Charlie in about a week and a half, though, so you can BET there will be lots of pictures!

Is your dog used to your husband being gone? My husband has been gone for most of the summer for military training and our 3 year old GSD has really missed him. Because she was upset she has been moody, disinterested in playing with our 1 year old GSD, and very demanding of my attention. In addition him being gone created some challenges since the Alpha was gone. While I commend you for your willingness to help a homeles animal you might want to see how Gypsy adjusts to your husband being gone before bringing in another dog. Just an idea.

She hasn't really seemed to notice. He's been gone since July 19th, and since I've always been the alpha anyways, it hasn't really phased her. She was my dog before we were married. Yes, I'm sure she misses him, since he was her major play buddy, but her behaviors have not changed other than for the past week she has been sticking really close to me and follows me everywhere I go in the house. Her obedience has really started to improve, too. I don't know if it's just because he's gone and she can focus more on me, or if it's because I have more time to work with her.
She's still just as playful, still eats and goes potty like she did before he left, and still acts the same. The only challenge she's attempted was last week when I had given her a new chew bone thing. She growled at me when I petted her while she was chewing on it, which she's never done. I made it a habit from the beginning to pet her and reach into her bowl and give her treats and things like that while she ate, so she would not develop food aggression. She's 2.5 years old now, and this is the first time she's ever even tried to challenge me. I could tell it was more of a "I wonder if I can get away with this" kind of thing, and I dealt with it. Since then there have been no more attempts.
If it doesn't work out with the foster dog, I can always send him back; but I think it will work out just fine.
You made some good points though, and thanks!
