Ken,
Sounds like your getting good advice on the forum with one exception. I noticed one reply to you was "pop the dog and give the command". From the information I gathered from Ed's Basic Obedience tape, the command is always given before the corrective "pop". You can't correct the dog without him knowing what it is you want him to do........
Good Luck

I had the same problem (pulling) with my Rottie. My trainer had us try a Halti (dog halter) and reinforced with treats. 15 minute daily training sessions and it did not take long the dog no longer pulls ahead. This will take care of pulling.
Going after another dog I would use the prong collar, as it is a punshisable offense.
I would not put a halti on a big dog, especially for a pulling problem. If that Rotti takes off and gets pulled back by the head, his neck is in for serious trouble.
Audrey - while some people may consider a Halti a training tool - I do not no does any seasoned dog tranier. I also do not agree with anyone who recommends a Halti be used on an adult Rot. It's bad advice.
The solution to pulling on a leash is covered in detail in my Basic Dog Obedience video. http://leerburg.com/302.htm
