The key with the tiny protection dogs is to have a whole sea of them, that way they sort of become your own "unholy army of the night" You also have to make sure they understand the command "SWARM! SWARM!"
Swarm of the JRT's. Sounds like a B grade movie from the 50s. Mini-Mals inc. It's all about quantity, not quality
Think about it! One patrol car full of terriers could do a building search in record time . On top of that, with my daughter's Chiwawa's help, my swarm of terriers could whup yer GSD. Sorry ED! I just couldn't pass that up.
If territory can be established in a consistent manner..and the genetics are there. They definetly will protect...without bitework training.BUT in saying that..if there was an intruder.Specific dogs would have to be in place whereas they would not hurt eachother ...getting to the cause. They are each at different levels..of maturity...and at a level within the "Pack". Forget the Jack Russell..Unload a patrol car of Rat terriers. Bee-Bee my rat..is ten and has no fear lol.
Sorry to be off topic but I have to share a brief and funny story. And old dog trainer friend of mine was sent by his company to protection train a lady's dog. When he arrived he found that the dog was a miniature pinscher. He told the lady to call him when she gets a pack of them. LOL!
Proper genetics and training will greatly increase the odds of a working dog protecting you , be it with or without a command . If 1 of those 2 things(genetics ,training) are lacking the odds go way down .
I have been a police officer for 14 years in an urban area with lots of dog owners and have had to go onto many people's property and in there homes on calls and on search warrants . Doing this I have come across alot dogs. At times it's been just me and the dog/s in it's yard or home with no place close for me to retreat to safety . Most bark and back away or run away , some just look confused and slink away . I've had quite a few charge me and stop just short (lucky for them and me). All of these eventually retreated also. They put on a good show but with a little presure they took off. Same with high risk search warrants . Bust in the door throw their owner on the floor and the dogs more often then not flee. Vitually every one of these dogs owners that I was able to talk to were surprised their dogs didn't protect them .
Many of these dogs looked very intimidating when on the other side of the fence in their yard or in their homes . But it all changes when their bluff is called and you go into their territory anyways .
For those that think their dogs will "naturally" protect them by actually going in and biting without any training , I hope they never have to find out . Like it's been said over and over again there are very few that will and alot more that won't .
Please note that "very few" means less than 50 I have had this conversation with so many people. how dumb do you have to be? I walk calmly up to you and ask directions. When you turn to point me in the right direction I pull out my pistol and you turn back to be robbed. Dogs are not that brilliant he's not gonna know that I am evil. poor dogs have to deal with us silly humans.
Some dogs at the sight of a gun become aggressive or when you make the fast motion to point the gun toward me may alert the dog to attack that hand.
And if you shoot the owner and he has issued the attack or the dog hits the hands who is going to call the dog off or dogs in my case. Either way you look at it, its gonna be a bloody situation. Even if its a clean robbery if the guy runs and U sends the dog at the assailant, Its going to be ugly him getting away.
Even if he shoots the dog he has alert the public to his presence usually not wanted, this is true if the dogs or dog just starts barking at him.
He could walk up to you and smoke the three of us, and there is no defense against that but he did give away his presence. And I may have a chance to get mines out, if the dog has his gun hand he is toasted for sure.
Most muggers stree clear of victims walking large dogs, because they really want easy prey.
