I take mine to an abandoned soccer field and, using a tennis racquet, hit balls for them to chase and bring back to me. I run the you know what out of them! And they LOVE it!
Driving your dogs for exercise! THAT is too cool! I love it! Have driven horses before but never dogs - - have to admit it would be GREAT exercise for them . . . but my guy isn't built to pull something (at least NOT with my big behind in it! ) Heck of a concept though!
You know, I've thought of teaching Ceili to pull a small cart for my little one to ride in during walks. She's still a bit too small to keep a brisk pace for 45 minutes to an hour, so I end up juggling stroller and dog. I figured the extra workout would be great for the dog, too.
Talk to your dog all the time and give everything a name. My girl knows the name of every toy that I OWN and let her play with. I put the pile of toys down and tell her which one to get...i.e blue ball, red ball etc. She loves it. As has been posted "find it" games are great. On rainy days I hide things all over the house. She has a blast. On the bragging side, she brought me to my keys once while on a trail. I had left them there an hour or so before and went off on a hike.
She also knows when we're going out the deck door or the cellar door because I tell her. Have fun!
