My two sleep loose in the house. My girl sleeps in my room with me. At 2 1/2 she just recently became trustworthy enough to leave her out of her crate during the night.
Loose in the bedroom, he repositions himself multiple times during the night. I don't trust him enough to let him roam around the house unsupervised, but unless I leave the room, he hasn't got much interest in leaving it anyway, he usually follows me around unless he's super tired, n he's crated when nobody's home.
axel is 100% housedog/domestic so he runs loose in the house all the time whether we are at home or not. he does an adequate job of preventing people from entering the house without permission. gerda, dharma, eddy and pieta all have nice big kennels outdoors for daytime when the weather permits, but all sleep in the house in crates. in addition to sleeping in the house, they also come in when the weather is hot or too cold. they have an opportunity to play and run thru the house just a little, but are not allowed free reign. that would be a disaster!

The border collie is loose inside at all times. The Malinut is kennelled (xxl wire crate) when I am not around and at night. Which is probably as it should be anyway- if I get an intruder it's the bc who administers the "greetings." Bless my little witch
