My first expierience with this was 30+yrs ago. My vet said basically the same thing. It was very common with uncut males. He said he could clear it up, but it would just come back and wasn't relly a concern. I don't know if a breeder would have any concerns with it.
If it's foul smelling I would get a swab and send it for a culture. If your dog allows you it is best to get a swab around the urethral opening. Most vets don't like doing it because most dogs won't comply.
Where would I send it? Just take it to my vet n ask em to do it?
I think my vet might have trouble gettin the swab, my dog isn't crazy about that place ever since they shoved the long probe up his butt for a stool sample, but he trusts me a whole lot more so I'm sure I could get him to comply.
If you notice that there is definitely a foul odor, explain it to the vet's office & ask them to give you a culture swab. It's usually like a big Q tip in a container. Get the specimen & return the swab to your vet. They'll call you w/the results (if any). It could take up to a week depending on whether the vet's office is set up to do cultures. Most send them out to labs.
You should obtain a specimen tube with a swab in it. It is the same one used for human swabs and cultures. Then you can drop it off to your vet who will send it to the lab.
