Connie, Try giving a couple spoonfulls of apple cider vinegar in her meal. A MWD handler friend of mine sent me a study wherein the use of this stuff cleared up all sorts of problems, the main one being dry/flaky or itchy skin problems. Its supposed to clear up ear infections, eye discharge, brittle coat, bad breath and a host of other things.
Careful with the Benadryl. I had to use that with my cat a few years ago. A little goes a very long way.. you can end up with a very limp animal.. My cat looked very stoned while she was on that..
Heather,My ears went up when you said that she has only had two puppy shots and your pup is 3 months old. Then add a staph on top of that.It sounds like your pups immune system is down from the get go.Have you recently changed her diet to raw? Other than a bath..with a certain advised soap to help. Go to a nearby store and buy in the "Human" section..Aveeno.It is collodial oatmeal soak for itchy skin.Benadryl is only an aid in certain circumstances. It is also a sedative. One of my shepherds had a severe reaction to mackeral..That fish was gone..haha. Look at your pups diet.
Before we got her the breeder was feeding her chicken patties from BARF world. When we got her we started her on ground beef-then added in turkey. She was given her 1st shot a week before we picked her up then a month later. Before her shot she had stapf infection and worms!
Worms are normal in puppies, somewhat. Most of them are born with them, unless they come from a long long line of dogs who never had them.
Even if the mother doesnt have an active case, cysts can be passed a few ways, particulary during feeding. My puppy also had worms when I brought her home. Roundworm, T canis. Gone now, thanks to weekly worming. So dont fret, just keep on top of worming (at 3 months it doesnt need to be weekly unless whatever youre using is prescribed that way - dont use the crap you find in the drug store or somewhere like that. It rarely works well.
I noticed the bit about how few shots your puppy has had also..
Depending on which parvo shes getting, it should be either 4 shots or 3 shots a few weeks apart. My puppy needed 3. Shes 3.5 months now, and her shots started at 6 weeks. She is finished all basic vaccs now. She is 1/2way through Lyme (not required by any means - but we live in a heavily infested area and I know people who have lost dogs from this). And she will get rabies a week after shes 4 months.
I would recommend talking to your vet about shots.. beacuse it seems like your puppy might be a little behind... might.. i dont know your situation, of course..
Good luck.
She had 1 puppy shot before i got her and was given 3 different doses of worming medication. She will get her 3rd and final puppy shot on the 23rd. At what age can she have her rabies? I just ordered K-9 Advatix and Heartguard so hopefully she will get that in a couple days. She is on liquid worming medication once a week, and she had a heartguard pill at the time of her last shot.
But anyway, I took her to the vet last night and he put her on antibiotics for these leasions down by her vaginal area. As for the itchiness i change her blanket i think she is allergic to TIDE detergent. Any suggestions of what to try?
