When I was younger and had my first Rott that I was doing Obedience with, the trainer had a perfectly well mannered Husky. She said the same thing, that they are difficult to train becuase they are more aloof than other dogs. With that said, hers was one of the most well mannered dogs I've ever come in contact with.
In short, it's feasible, but you've really got to work at it(isn't that true of any dog, though?). I've never owned a husky, but I've rescued about 3 in my lifetime - they are the Houdini's of the dog world!!

What she said. In my own experience, basic training is not breed-specific at all. The amount of time and work spent on each step will vary according to the breed and the individual -- not the actual steps.
Any dog can be trained in my opinion. I guess it comes down to how much training you can give the dog and how much it will keep, how that dog takes to traning and what are you training the dog to do. What the dog was bred for and the dogs drives and lines has alot to do with this also. Have to read the dog. As far as it doing OB like a GSD, once agin depends on the GSD your talking about. As far as it doing protection, I think again, it all depends on the GSD your talking about, or any other dog for that matter. It all relative.

Yes, I agree with you. Of course, I was talking about basic obedience training not being breed-specific.
There has been a Huskiy that earned the OTCH ( Open Trial Championship ) which is the highest obedience award given to dogs in AKC.
So yep...they can be trained, and to a high level if you'll do your part! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
