Hey everybody, My rottie is 11 months old and ever since he was weaned on dry food i fed him Nutro. His daily feeding is twice a day with nutro and raw meat {hamburg} once a day and Mackrel fish twice a week. I have seen the other males from the litter from where mine came and they all ask me why there dogs are ten pounds lighter? Its all what you feed them. Every-one feel free to comment on how and what you feed. rottie-man
this is innova's web-site they let you compare other dog food to theirshttp://www.waggintails.com/new.epl?Anima...oductID=&NoNav= .
I use innova puppy formula I don't know if its better or not, it's just easier to get. The web-site will direct you to retail stores closest to you.
"WHO SELLS AND IS A HUGE ADVOCATE FOR THIS DOG FOOD"
I personally don't feed the food, but my mothers dog won't eat anything but it. It is very dry by comparison to other "premium" foods. So far as their "taste test" that they advocate as a selling point. I advise you to put down a bowl of any food along with your dogs normal food and you will probably see the dog eat the "unusual" food first.
I also knew a breeder that sold the food, of course she pushed the food, if she sold enough she got free bags for herself....... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
sp i would still have to supplement with this food also? that is one of the things i was having trouble with. i can't get my hands on any supplements now. where can they be bought other than on line?
I feed barf too and I too got a bit tired of pulping all the veggies and having to add a ton of stuff. I found this food which is designed to take the place of the veggies and it already as everything it needs. It's Montana Raw-n-Real and you can check it out at http://www.montanacompany.com
It's a bit spendy but 25 pounds of this food equate to 125 pounds of real food. A guy on another board feeds this to his rotties and it lasts him about 3 months. I've only had mine for 2 weeks so I'll see. So if it last 3 months I am looking at $32.00 a month plus the turkey necks which is a heck of a lot less than what I was spending.
One of our house dogs had started developing sores on her skin and we went through mulitple things to try and figure out what it was. I had read about Flint River Ranch on the web and some of her health issues we listed and being caused by commercial dog food. So we went and tried the Flint River Kibble and not only has her skin cleared up but we energy level is much higher. Also the dogs do not seem to eat as much of it which makes it balance out compared to the cheaper dog foods available.
Here's another possibility that I've posted elsewhere. Greentripe.com has a new product, not yet listed on their web site, described as follows:
"...a new product meat for performance dogs. It was made for racing/coursing dogs, sled dogs and shutzhund dogs. It consists of 1/2 beef, 1/2 tripe, trachea, gullet, and extra fat for endurance and stamina. It is $.80/lb and comes in 2lb rolls."
It's frozen. I use their green tripe and the dogs love it; this sounds even better, since tripe alone is, according to some, a little low in protein.
Have you looked at Wysong? This food was/is formulated by a vet who believes in raw feeding but also recognizes that some poeple still want the convenience of a kibble.
I have heard of Flint River but have never used it. It is promoted heavily on the fact that it is 'baked'.
Regardless of what quality kibble one feeds , it is still just that...kibble. Feeding fresh raw food is still the 'best' choice for many reasons.
Have you looked at the different prepared raw diets available? Farmore is one choice. There are several others. If buying the prepared raw diets is expensive, perhaps some kibble (fed separate..morning lets say) and then raw at night might be a choice?
I feed BARF but there are occasions when I get lazy, forget to lay out the food to thaw or just need to feed kibble. I do feed this food.
My dogs have great energy and beautiful coats.
So I definately do think this is a good choice.
I also feed their cat food to my beloved kitty.
One thing I like about it is that it is delivered to my door and they also have an automatic delivery service so you don't have to remember to order it.
Just my 2 cents.

Another option for those who want a food 'just in case' there is also several freeze dried products. I use one that you just add hot water to and then let sit for a bit. My dogs really like it and the ingredients are wholesome. Again, it is not raw but I think it is one step better than the kibble.
