He "Luke" is a smart dog, and continually provides me with some rare insights into just how truly "problem solving" smart a GSD can be. After our snow melted, my wife was also quick to point out that he ought to hang out with my 6 year old, because niether one of them seems to have grasped the concept of having mud on their feet when they come in from outside. Ah well, we all have our limits, and the truly "gifted" are sometimes way too busy thinking, and simply have time to consider such mundane details as wet/muddy feet on mom's carpets & rugs. Try as I might, and the wife has REALLY tried, we have not been able to impart anything more than the "stay" command when he comes in with wet feet, and then the wife gets him, but if he is in tow behind the 6 year old then what you get is a nice trail of footprints.
If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking.
Kevin, Thanks for the laugh... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! Sounds like you have a great dog and 6 year old!! Nothing like muddy footprints <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I almost hesitate to post this but it was so weirdly funny ( not to mention embarrassing ) and so close in time to ya'lls experience that I'm going to tell it:
Yesterday, I was typing away working on my book in my computer room when I hear Fetz go into full-blown attack mode in the living room. It was his killer bark, the "DIE YOU BAST*RD, DIE!!" bark, not one that I hear from him unless their is *real* danger ( not his usual "Hey! Get the H*ll off my street! bark.. ). I leapt up and grab the closest weapon to me and ran into the living room and saw that Fetz was barking out of one of the side bedroom windows and man....was he pissed. My first thought was that someone was on/near the side of my house so I ran out my front door ( at least I had the presence of mind to close the door behind me as I didn't want Fetz involved in a gunfight ) with a CAR-15, which was the handiest rifle I could grab on the way out. So as I sprint around the side of my house I see the lethal danger to my very existence.........an Inflatable Santa in his Sled that my neighbor had just put up and was admiring with his family. They waved at me and went back to their photo session and I went back into the house to have a long talk with the Fetz dog.
Fortunately, my neighbors actually count on me to watch their house when they're gone so they appreciate a display of my security precautions, despite my embarrassment. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
And as the owner of Emma, Fetz's sister, what does this say about you? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I could just see Will running out with the weapon in his hand....ready to charge at someone and then getting disenchanted of what he saw <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
I needed the laugh today.ha...ha... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
