You're probably right, but if it were me, I would just say it was a "happy dog sound," rather than saying it was their form of a laugh.

Just sounds like happy dog to me. Now smiling.... that they can do well. I only have one smiler (my Weim) and she usually just grins when she's in trouble. Hmmm...now that you mention it, Bob, I may have heard some muffled guffaws when my back was turned, too!
