I say this in good humor because I like the look of a Great Dane but, my BH is better looking than a Dane/Beagle Cross.
Your right....OUCH....for the beagle. The down stay may work though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

When my current GSD was 4 mos old, and her ears were up one day, a passerby said to her daughter with utter conviction,
"Look Honey, a Miniture Shepherd!" She's a svelt 80# now.
I just kept walking.

My Ridgeback gets confused as a 'Razorback' quite often. One person thought she was a Shar-pei?
And several people have asked me what she is so upset about.

I have a fawn colored doberman, and his ears don't stand, so I get "nice looking greyhound, or weireimer"(spelling I know, but I'm a product of the Oklahoma education system)
I am in the military so when I bring him with me every day the gate guards always ask, "does he bite", I gave a nice answer the first 500 times, now sometimes I say, " he only bites stupid people, you better watch out". This has a great response when your already wearing a drill sergeant hat.
And, Dobermans have the most stories, "Huge Warlock" "kings" "their heads stop growing so they will bite you" I even had a guy tell me, you better be carefull taking him to those schutzhund classes the more he learns the faster his brain will grow and that will cause him to turn on you faster.

Now THAT is a classic! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
And about the Beagle-Dane mix, assuming the Dane is the mother, I'll borrow a great line from O.E.D. Bob Scott: "Someone must have put him up to it."

"Does your dog bite?"
<Peter Sellers voice> "No."
(Dog takes a hunk of leg)
"I thought you said your dog did not bite!?"
"That is not my dog."

I'm walking my male APBT, 46 lbs of muscle, rather large head, very mellow around people and any other animals. We walk past the doggy club gathering at our neighborhood park, this little terrier of some type comes running up to us w/o a leash, so I reach down and pick Buddy up under his neck just in case. The man runs up to me behind his 6 lb ankle biter and looks at me and says...."Oh don't worry he is not dog aggresive". I thanked him and walked on.

I was stopped at a red light and noticed a Lady walking her Golden Retriever. They both stop and her female dog squats for a pee on the grass. The IDIOT in the car beside me says to her..."make sure you pick that up!" and drives off. I felt sorry for the Lady because she didn't get time to respond to the IDIOT and it left her shaking her head. I get it all the time. Actualy a woman flew outta her house the other night cursing me to pick it up, although the boys were only peeing. So I think when they do have a poop I will deposit it on her door step just to let her know I picked it up! Ha Ha! No I wouldn't do that to someone. Just a thought though. Usually these comments always come from Non-pet owners.
