Yes Cat, you're right, of course <:-) However, you paid $1500 for a dog that not only should have cost HALF that much (an un-cropped "pet" quality pup) but one that was in NO fit condition to be sold, let alone air-shipped sight unseen to an unsuspecting novice owner <:-(
I agree, I think Mr. tristany is very happy with what he purchased 5 years ago , and we should be happy for him.It is very hard to buy puppies Via-Shipping as suppose to meet the breeder in person and pick out your pup. Mr. Tristany did it right , he went inperson to get his pup.Cat took a gamble when she did not pickout her pup in person, and told the breeder she just wants a "pet".When breeders (not all) hear that the buyer just wants a pet, they will likely ship out the pup that no one in"person" would pick out. We see it all the time.I cannot tell you ladies how many times people come to our club and got a pup shipped to them that they would have never picked out in person.Countless times!!
Mr. Tristany has a great dog ,had a great experience and I wish him the same thing on his next (pup) purchase.Lets be happy for this guy and help out Cat with the pup she has now and hope that her pup turns out to be the "pet" pup she desired. I wish them both hapiness.
I feel Cat's concerns over his Dobe are valid, however I can't understand or agree with everyone jumping all over this Mr. Tristany, whom I do NOT know. Reading his comments posted by Cat, I saw nothing that referenced how "rich" he is, nor that he deserved any of the "being made fun of" that his comments got. His comments were courteous, without malice, and his advice was only given to try to help Cat. Yikes!
It's true, he was very kind and polite and took the time to advise in great detail. I confess to MY reaction being "overly", but I felt like he was almost blaming Cat for the condition of her dog (nutritional deficiencies) when she is trying really hard (and IMO succeeding) to do what's right for Annie. It also doesn't sound to me like her breeder treated her fairly.

Usually a good breeder picks the puppy for the customer either way. Rarely does a reputable breeder let a customer pick out their own pup, at least not without some counseling about why a certain puppy would be better than another for a specific living situation. The difference between a show-quality pup and a pet-quality pup shouldn't have anything to do with health or basic structure. Only appearance. Things like the wrong eye color, not an having an eye-catching coat pattern, etc. are usually what puts an otherwise great dog into the "pet" category.

I'm with you ,but it's not always the case. If you have more than one pet quality or you have more than a show quality, many breeders and again if you are coming to meet in person will let you pick out out of the 2 or 3 (howevermany) and pick the one you bond with better. We did exactly that with our king Charles (we bought my 10 year old son) She had 2 pet quality. She brought them out and we picked out the one that was the most out going of the 2.Yes if you cant go and meet in person to see the pups they pick the pup for you.For me I rather pick out my dogs.I know for novice buyers , they need assistance about what pup is best for them .The problem too is that so many people will describe to the breeder what they want and when the breeder sends them the dog they think is best 3 out 10 will not like what they get. That is why you will see many breeders do not ship and rather you come down and pick out your pup.I am not saying that if you pay a pet quality pup you can pick out a show quality just because you showed up in person, but it sure helps on how happy you will be about your purchase ,regardless of what quality you were looking for. Also many breeders do not rate the pet quality the same way and that is another question buyers should ask because what is a pet quality to you may not be the same for the breeder. I agree with you about the pet quality issue in regards the health condition but again Kathys' pet quality definition might not be the same as we see it.I'm with you on this!

Cool For us (and who knows, maybe we're just extra-picky) because we have more experience assessing temperaments than the average pet owner, we have the final say. We just don't want a timid person to get a dominant dog because "hey! the dog picked me! it must be the right one!" It's scary how often that kind of thing happens And when you're dealing with 90 pounds of Doberman.....better not to take chances We just want the dogs and new owners to be compatible, and the homes to be forever There should definetly be a price difference between show and pet quality.
