I wash my dogs often. If I skip the conditioner, they get itchy. For conditioner I use Mane & Tail, it comes in a huge bottle, is fairly cheap, and smells like bananas. I bought mine at Wal-mart in the pet section.
I only use dog shampoo on my dogs. Their skin doesn't do well with human shampoos.
To dry, you can also try putting him in a wire crate with a chew toy and setting a space heater nearby (on the moderate setting).
