"Your vet's chances of having had nutrition classes that were not funded in part (or fully) by Hills are slim. His chances of belonging to a vet organization that doesn't rely to a great degree on contributions from "corporate sponsors" like Hills and the pharmaceutical houses are also not very good."
Not only do most vets not have much if any training about nutrition, they also don't know much about training or behavioral issues.
Again -- I can't thank you all enough for the responses. We have "weaned" them off of the Science Diet, and put them on a single source protein kibble. I followed many of your directions and looked at the important ingredients for the kind of kibble we should be giving them. This one definitely follows that list. I am hoping my own work schedule slows enough to perhaps look into the raw diet. I hesitate at this point simple because event the research of it would not be something I have time for at the moment. But I would like to avoid some of the health problems for these 2 little ones that we ran into with our older dog (who has since passed).
As far a crating, we have been crating them from the time we first got them. They are quite happy with their crates -- it is our fault because we love having them out and with us. We are now starting them on a more strict schedule of time in the crates to help save the walls!! Thanks again -- Kristen Ryan
