Stephanie - I know where you are coming from! Years ago I had a very aggressive cat that had to be put in the basement when people came over - because she would attack people... - well a cousin came over, was appalled that we put our cat in the basement and called Animal Control and told them we had a wild bobcat locked in a tiny cage in our basement. Huh? Not a bobcat... not in a cage at all ... well we got our entire house inspected from top to bottom, they saw the cat was not in a cage and that it was not a bobcat and then proceeded to inspect our dogs to see if they had been abused at all. All healthy happy creatures... they treated us like scum of the earth even after they found out nothing was amiss.
I was only 15 at the time - to this day I do not speak to those cousins! Dog training is a touchy subject nearly everywhere you go. Sorry to hear about your bad holiday experience
Stephanie,
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble, especially with your family. It's obvious the dogs are near and dear to your heart. You know the best things for your dogs so I hope you won't let it get to you to much. When it involves your family it makes it extra hard because they should be the closest to your heart. I pray that you won't allow their ignorance and mistakes to create any further division that's already occurred by trying to pay back (as tempting as it may be in word or in deed). This will only create further division with the ones you love most.
Dear Stephanie: I am very sorry and so sad that this happened to you and by your own family. I know how bad that can hurt. My family has disagreed with me re: family or pet issues and even though they did not go to the lengths your family did, their poor treatment of me hurt, because they are my family.
However, the good news is that their is hope. My family always thought I was a total nut in how I raised my son and how I raised my dogs, but over time they found out that I wasn't as weird as they thought I was and things began to improve. I hope that is the case with you also.
So glad the human society called you and apoligized.
People hear so many stories about pits that they panic especially when children are involved.
Sorry to hear about this situation, and I hope things will get better soon.
God bless you
Stephanie, I too must say how sorry I am to hear how your family reacted to you. It's good that they are concerned over the dogs welfare, but not so good that they wouldn't listen to you.
Don't exclude your family completely. Just agree to meet elsewhere, not at your house, and don't discuss the dogs for a while. When you are comfortable with them again and if they want to talk dogs, have the BARF and Crate info to hand, and give them a copy to read!
Best of luck with them.
Rob

The new aspca detective came today.
They both told me they were sorry for what happen and made a new report and gave me a copy.
The only thing they said was that phoenix needs to be fixed witch is fine with me.
She is a mixed breed don't need more homeless puppys or dog in this world. They gave me a number for a free spay and neuter clinic. In my area but I will wait to check them out first. She will get fixed through my vet most likely. But they said these are the most well taken care of dogs they have seen in a while.

I'd make copies of that. :>
I'm glad you followed up and have no undeserved black marks against you.
I thought Phoenix was just a puppy? Anyway... good for you. It's really tough when your family is against you but at least you have the law (and what's right) on your side. And your dogs thank you for it.
